Hi folks,

I wanted a podcast player that looks great and could be used in my region, with Fedora. So I found Musicpod as flatpack and downloaded it. But when I open it, and want to add podcast it says "It looks like your computer isn't connected to the internet" so I can't search. My internet is connected, I use other apps, without problem. Its on Fedora 40, with VPN on. Anything I have to change,or do you recognize this issue?

A question re. #wireguard When I'm away from home I usually connect to my home (US) and my server (Europe). However sometimes (not always) the connection to my home is blocked, I don't know if it is caused by my phone company or my ISP. I blame the latter, because the connection to my european server never fails.I wonder if there is something I can do in those cases? I guess I could try to redirect the traffic to use the european server as a proxy, but that would make things slower the 90% of the time this isn't a problem. Also, this would require me to switch wireguard connections manually, which is not ideal, especially if I'm driving.Another alternative would be tailscale (maybe with headscale), but I'd rather keep my infrstructure as wireguard only.Any ideas? cc @selfhosted@lemmy.world @selfhost@lemmy.ml

Is it possible to somehow mount a folder to Adguard running in Docker? I have auto renewed Letsencrypt certificates, but have to copy/paste them into AdGuard. Trying to add a direct path to files doesn't work. Could it be just permissions?

How do you manage the distribution of internal TLS network certificates? I'm using cert-manager to generate them, but the root self-signed certificate expires monthly which makes distribution to devices outside of K8s a challenge. It's a PITA to keep doing this for the tablet, laptop and phones. I can bump the root cert to a year, but I'm concerned that the date will sneak up on me. Are there any automated solutions?

I see some fairly interesting prices for refurbished drives on Amazon, 35~40% cheaper than new. Example here: 16TB Seagate Exos X18 Refurbished at 166€ and New at 260€.

I have a home setup with private services and Wireguard to phone in from outside, and would sometimes like to be able to access some of these services from devices that don't have their own Wireguard client like an eBook reader.

The specs are: AMD Embedded G-Series GX-420GI Radeon R7E 2,0GHz 8GB RAM 32 GB M.2 Flash memory

Solution: hd-idle is the way to go (if you read their README, they explain that most drives don't support idle timers)

This post is mostly just me bitching about the music industry but also genuine interest in what other people in this community do when it comes to music streaming. Apologies if this is an incomprehensible wall of text.

So I have this weird deja vu situation where I distinctly remember an EXIF viewer tool called exiv4(with a 4) but the only "exiv" tool I can find is exiv2. I can't get over this feeling that I used an EXIF viewer called exiv4, however. I can only find an old Stack Exchange post mentioning it. Does *anyone* know about an exiv4 tool, or am I just crazy?

Something like VNC, but that allows for more than one user to remotely see and control the screen of this Ubuntu Desktop at the same time. I've been looking around for a while now, but all the solutions I've found only allow for one user at a given time. If a second user logs in, the first one is kicked out. I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I'd really appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction. Thanks!

Yesterday I tried to install the latest NVIDIA drivers on my Linux Mint laptop (version 21.3, Cinnamon Edition) and my Driver Manager said that, since i have Secure Boot enabled, I had to create a Mok key for my drivers so I could use them with Secure Boot. So I created a password and restarted my PC. However, I didn't know what to do in the MokManagement screen, so i turned off my PC and then turned it on again to be able to start over. After turning my PC on and off a few times to try a few different buttons thqt I ended up not understanding, I looked up a tutorial and tried to follow it. But when i clicked "Enroll MOK" this time, instead of showing "View Keys", it asked if I wanted to delete my existing keys.

The number of containers I'm running on my server keeps increasing, and I want to make sure I'm not pushing it beyond its capabilities. I would like a simple interface accessible on my home network (that does not make any fishy connections out) that shows me CPU and RAM-usage, storage status of my hard drives, and network usage. It should be FOSS, and I want to run it as a Docker container.

I'm considering replacing my Nvidia Shield in the future and plan to build a small TV box as its replacement. I'm curious about what operating systems people typically use for these types of TV-specific devices, as well as which desktop environments are preferred. Is KDE or GNOME better optimized for use on TVs?

I have an old ThinkPad 11e running Debian that I have repurposed into a home server. It's only supposed to run TVheadend. I don't need any other services for now, but later on i might add a few using docker.

What software have you found particularly frustrating or difficult to configure on Linux?

I'm curious what the difference is between Balenca etcher and Ventoy for writing isos to a live USB for distro hopping purposes. I see both recommended in fourms. Is there any advantage to using one over the other? Are they both equally safe/secure?

I use Anilist to track my anime and manga. But haven't found anything that provides a similar experience in regular movie and TV show tracking, or even books.

A while ago, I had requested help with using LLMs to manage all my teaching notes. I have since installed Ollama and been playing with it to get a feel for the setup.

Someone gave me a Hisense C11 Chromebook and I'm wondering if there's absolutely anything I can do with it. It seems like a piece of junk and the Linux stuff I've seen for Chromebooks specify that they don't work with the ARM processor. Is there any distro that would work on it? Any other ideas about how to repurpose it?

I’ve set up subnet routing via Tailscale from my Oracle VPS to my home RPi4. The VPS has a static IPv4 and a /64 IPv6 allocation. I use the VPS to reverse traffic apps on the raspberry using nginx. I would like to take one step forward by tunneling v6 traffic from my home network to WAN, so every client gets its own IPv6 address. What's the best way to tunnel IPv6 traffic from my home network through the RPi4 to the Oracle VPS? I’m also comfortable with messing up my Asus AC86U router to provide publicly routable IPv6 addresses to all clients via DHCP.

Hey guys. I’ve been considering maybe moving to another OS for my home lab. Do you have have any suggestions? Especially former Unraid users? Mostly just for arrs though I would like to run reverse proxy/file hosting as well. Proxmox seems pretty trendy can I use it for arrs as well as backups?

I often see people mention the Portainer project and how it's useful, but I never hear any reason to use it other than as a more user friendly front end to service management.

So I'm looking for a laptop, but before you downvote and move on, I've got a twist: I'm looking for a laptop with Linux support that's going to intentionally be console-only and rely on TUIs to make a lower-distraction device.

I would like to make some of my self-hosted services externally accessible. Currently I use a VPN to access stuff externally, however this doesn't work on all use-cases. I also use Tailscale for some things.

At the moment I have my NAS setup as a Proxmox VM with a hardware RAID card handling 6 2TB disks. My VMs are running on NVMEs with the NAS VM handling the data storage with the RAIDed volume passed through to the VM direct in Proxmox. I am running it as a large ext4 partition. Mostly photos, personal docs and a few films. Only I really use it. My desktop and laptop mount it over NFS. I have restic backups running weekly to two external HDDs. It all works pretty well and has for years.
