Over the past few months, and especially since the last holiday season, many exciting things have happened in Mobian: new devices are (about to be) officially supported, many new and improved packages have made their way into both Debian and Mobian, and we’re getting ready for our next stable release!
I have an unused Windows tablet from 2021 running some Core M processor or other that I want to put Linux on and start using again. It doesn't have a keyboard so I would have to actually use it as a tablet and not a laptop. Is there a distro built around one of the mobile desktop environments that also runs well on x86? (Last time I tried Linux mobile it was pretty much only for ARM and I never got it to work well on even an x86 virtual machine.) Or is regular GNOME deskrop still my best bet for a tablet?
Hey everyone, I'm going insane due to a lack of creative project. I've written an app already but I haven't gotten around to publishing it yet. I'd like to know what kind of apps you'd like to see created for mobile Linux. I prefer easier, bite-sized projects over particularly large ones, but I'd love to hear your ideas nevertheless.
My current rig:
* old android phone with GPS disabled
* external GPS device (NMEA over bluetooth)
* OSMand from f-droid for offline maps and navigation
* BlueGPS to connect to the bluetooth GPS device, grab the NMEA signal, and feed it as a mock location
* developer options » mock locations enabled

It looks like ubuntu touch on the fairphone 4 is nearly perfect, and the features that don't work I won't miss. I'm very tempted to buy a second hand fairphone 4, but I can't really find much on the experience of ubuntu touch. How do you install apps? Are there repo's that I can look at? And is it just branded ubuntu touch, or will any ubuntu apps made for arm work on ubuntu touch? If anybody has some links or personal experiences they could share, that would be greatly appreciated.
I want to buy a mobile phone that would be great for linux mobile (ubuntu touch or postmarket os), fairphone 4 would be almost ideal if it wasn't so big (i'm currently using pixel 8 + GrapheneOS). What do you recommend for my desire to use a compact mobile for linux + a solid camera? Thanks for the answers.
As Google Chrome warns uBlock Origin may soon be disabled in the future. They’re going to eventually ban adblockers for chromium. We need to quickly respond with alternatives to android, we must end this market consolidation.

Two new change proposals have been filed for enhancing the KDE offerings with this autumn's Fedora 41 release.
First, there is a proposal to offer a new Fedora Spin using KDE Plasma Mobile.
Similarly, a Fedora Kinoite Mobile Bootable Container image is also proposed as part of that.
Some find success as well using KDE Plasma Mobile on 2-in-1 laptop devices too.
Those are the newest Fedora 41 change proposals for that feature release due out in October.

I was thinking about using graphene OS, but I've read some lemmy users dislike this OS due to perceived misleading advertising and the pixel 7a you're supposed to install graphene on because it's from google (an advertising company).
I've been toying with the idea of getting a second phone to put postmarket OS on. So out of curiosity I've been going through the available software checking if I could maybe even use such a device as a daily diver. The result: Not yet, but it is very close (purely from an app availability standpoint). Most use cases have functioning apps or apps that are actively worked on. I did however notice some gaps. Now, my programming knowledge is very small and I don't really have the time to learn and then develop/maintain the apps. At least not at the moment. I have been checking out penpot however. Penpot is a browser-based graphic design tool with a focus on UI/UX design tool, similar to figma, but open source. And there is a mostly complete asset pack for gnome/adwaita applications available. (Side note to everyone trying it out: If you are getting weird flickering then it might be a Nvidia/Wayland issue. Switching to X should resolve it)
LPT: If you're not a fan of where Android or iOS is going but have to use one, buy a used phone to avoid giving money directly to ill-intentioned manufacturers. Then use some of the savings to support Linux Mobile Distro development!
“Marius showed videos of both voLTE and 5g running on UT devices during Q&A 138. A big step forward but not fully resolved yet. We are now using the proprietary Sailfish ofono binder pluging for voLTE and more work and testing is needed. Of the two by way of a sort of happy accident 5g should be available first, and has been tested on FP5 and 4 but should in theory work on Android 9 and above devices. Both of the videos show these running on qualcomm but thanks to Nikita they are also on meditek.
Long time iOS user with perception issues here. I went to iOS because it was very simple and intuitive to use. My daily life was too busy for me to tinker with my phone a lot.
