On lemmy you can cross-post (share) posts to other communities. On piefed I couldn’t find anything similar. Am I missing something?

Hi y’all! I’m subscribed to the “Garfield” community out of lemmy.world. However, I recently noticed that it hasn’t been federating to piefed. i.e. if I look at the following on a private tab on a web browser, the piefed version is missing the last month’s worth of posts:

I recently noticed that Piefed handles cross instance reports better than Lemmy, i.e. if you moderate a remote community and a Piefed user reports someone from yet another instance, the report actually seems to reach you.

So if I’ve selected two languages in my settings, if I see language outside those selections can I assume that is because their language settings aren’t set properly or have I stuffed up a setting?

A comment I posted is missing from where I posted it, but I can’t find anything about it in modlogs. What’s this mean?

Hello! I’ve been mostly away from Lemmy/Piefed for a bit (important to take a break for mental health) but, was hoping that someone could point me to Piefed plugin examples/docs.

I tried using the translation button, but it didn’t seem to work as expected. The post page reloaded, but the description just went away.

I’ve been experiencing an issue when I am browsing the site on my phone (android) when viewing comments on a post the navigation bar at the bottom will detach and float up a bit. When I am browsing posts this doesn’t happen. Its a bit cumbersome as thats where I scroll up and down. Can the navigation bar stay at the bottom of the screen? This is a recent issue and hasn’t always been like this for me. Screenshot below:

I got a lot of backlash for a thread on Lemmy the other day about how the “federation” system is fundamentally broken by its lack of Tor support.

I think that’s some important missing functionality.

My home instance is down so I figured I’d make a piefed account since I recall them defederating from the tankie triad. This doesn’t seem to be the case any more? Any suggestions for such instances?

I think I understand how to post from mastodon but pixelfed just brought in all the text as one huge, run-on title, including hashtags, etc.

I noticed that after editing a post’s alt texts, it doesn’t change. Is it supposed to be that way or is it an oversight?

When the GUI editor is enabled there won’t be a ‘Insert image’ button below the post, you can use the image icon. This one:

I would like a script that given a list of my liked instances gives me the piefed instances that federate with all of them. Is there something like that?

It’d be nice to be able to tag certain users with a color, emoji, or text. It would help with noticing users that have been helpful/friendly, or users that post certain genres of content.

The ones I set up a few days ago have worked but I’ve tried today and they don’t. Any ideas? I’ve tried rebooting

the search communities page, with local/other as 1 filter, & subscribed/not-subscribed as the other filter ( other options, don’t remember ‘em )..

Has anyone made custom themes for PieFed? Is it even possible in the first place?

The change does make perfect sense to me for mobile users, but I find it cumbersome and annoying when viewing via desktop. I.e., thumbnails are a thing for good reasons.

Rather than a format like piefed.social/post/long_number, posts how have a url that includes the community name and title in it.

Next to list and tiling, how about a videoplayer view?

Some meme or image-based communities will prefer to set this to ‘Image’. Mods can edit the community settings to change it.

I want to mark some of my posts in !banpitbulls@lemmy.ca as “video”. Should I use tags and should I use flairs?

I’ve followed all the frequent posters on piefed.social using my mastodon.social account so we should be seeing a lot more PieFed content showing up there now. But unless you use hashtags, I’ll be the only one seeing it!

When instances get older, they can become harder to maintain due to storage and high usage issues with risks of donations drying up.

Any specific function?

I was thinking about moderation in PieFed after reading @rimu@piefed.social mention he doesn’t want NSFW content because it creates more work to moderate. But if done right, moderation shouldn’t fall heavily on admins at all.

On piefed.social I don’t want to have much NSFW content to oversee because it’s an extra moderation burden but there is plenty of it on other instances.

Came to PieFed.social from Lemm.ee about a month ago. Currently only using PieFed on my desktop because my brief Android client search gave me a non-working app.

Hi y’all, I use the default web UI (desktop and in Android on my phone) when accessing piefed.social and when I create posts, 99% are the Link type. I would love to find a way to make that my default type of post if there’s any way.

I would assume that when I choose “Active” as my front page sorting, I would not see so many posts with no comments. What am I not understanding correctly?

Yeah so I added my piefed account as a moderator to a community I moderated from Lemmy and then removed my Lemmy account without realizing that piefed differentiates between mods and owner, so now the community has only one moderator but no owner. This isn’t a big problem for now, but it means I can’t add new mods in the future. Is there a way I can make that account the owner? Should I contact my admins? Maybe it would be a good idea to prevent a community being ownerless by automatically making another moderator the owner, especially if there is only one moderator. On a related note, is their a way to remove myself as mod from a community that I don’t moderate?

TL;DR I want Mastodon hashtags treated like communities.
