I absolutely love wiki walking through random obscure fan wikis, but I hate how most are on Fandom.

I keep getting follows on mastodon lately that’s just spam. It’s women’s accounts that have suggestive photos and usually links to OnlyFans. I even got one on two different accounts overnight.

I was looking for some collection of posts earlier about Proton Mail and the whole controversy with the CEO, and I opened a post the lemmy instance that was suggested was lemmy.zip but the community and the poster were from lemmy.world so that made me ask myself a bunch of questions. Given the different way they apps are structured I don't even know if it's a sensible question, but is there a way to subscribe to something on a Madison server?

For anyone who wants an invitation to join mastodon.online, let me know! Like mastodon.social, it is one of the two official communities run by the Mastodon non-profit. The difference is that mastodon.online is invite-only.

Mastodon dms are just posts with limited visibility, and a mention to the person recieving it. They don't seem to be compatible with lemmy.

I'm asking myself if exist something inside the fediverse where you can list your profiles and other people can Send you a message throw your most used app/profile without needing an sccount on that service, unify conversations throw different platforms and notify you if one person you follow in A service has a new profile in B service.

I feel like everyone suggests following hashtags, but depending on the hashtag, I find the content that's being posted quite overwhelming when it comes to the amount of toots, and that it's hard to get an overview. Anyone that relates?

Ok, this might be a dumb question, but is it really technically possible in any way - even a convoluted one, like manually downloading HTML pages from Facebook? - to mass import posts from one's Facebook into Mastodon or Friendica instead of painstakingly copying them one by one? I've got a 10+ year archive to port and it's a daunting task to go through them...

In Bookwyrm there are way too many duplicate authors and books, and a way to merge them is unclear.

(I'm aware that I'm giving this spam more attention by posting this, but I really wanted to share this weird behaviour.)

For those not familiar, there are numerous messages containing images being repeatedly spammed to many Threadiverse users talking about a Polish girl named "Nicole". This has been ongoing for some time now.

Bookwyrm's catalog is currently quite limited. Every user can always add a book, of course, but a lot of people will not find the button or just don't want to do this, and so they'll leave the platform disappointed.

Just like apps and websites implement "Sign in with Apple" and Google couldn't we build some kind of federated authentication provider? Then everyone creates an account there and fedi apps can implement an easy way to authenticate users. Even non fedi apps could use it. I imagine user interaction between different fediverse platforms would be much easier too.

Lemmy's design is focused on quality content by ditching the Karma farmers and addicts. No more chasing upvotes—people here actually focus on real value instead of feeding the ego.

Basically the title. I'd like to not lose anything and import users, communities, posts/comments, etc to hit the ground running but on a more stable platform.

TikTok basically invented shorts. Maybe Snapchat. And everyone else’s sucks because their AI isn’t as good. It’s a toxic medium anyway. I with the Pixelfed creator would just focus on Pixelfed, I use that and it’s a total win, just needs some kinks worked out and more popularity.

I feel like it would be best to proxy YouTube, or subscribe to paid indie channels like nebula, but without a user base and without ad revenue or subscription revenue I don’t know how quality content can come to PeerTube. Maybe I’m just missing the content but when I’ve checked it’s all very low quality, just random unedited webcam vblogs mostly.

So I realized that signing up on lemmy.world may not have been the best option for me, so I'm wondering what the best way to move instances (I'd like to move to pawb.social or lemmy.blahaj.zone) for my account would be I'm most worried about leaving everything I made on this account behind forever, but I've seen online that there's no way to actually move your account to another instance, so what do you guys suggest the best procedure is?

I have a personal website that is just a landing page made with Carrd. I’ve been interacting on the Fediverse (Lemmy, Mastodon, Pixelfed, BlueSky so far). I would like to consolidate my public Fediverse persona, write a little bit longer form blogging, and be able to have a central spot for my pictures and posts.

I know this isn't quite the proper forum for asking this, but I can't think of any other place. Looking for a site where I can post little videos to share on Lemmy Meme Communities. A -- Non-youtube-y place.

I hope this directory will help you find the PeerTube platform that fits your needs. I must say, I am a little worried how few platforms actually meet the criteria I've set. It's possible I've missed some, so please let me know in the comments. Enjoy.

I'm new here, and have been looking into different communities to subscribe to, it's pretty difficult to decide which ones to subscribe to when theres often the same community on more than one server. (Example: internetisbeautiful on @feddit.de, @lemmy.ee, @lemmy.ml)

I love the fact that fediverse was built from the ground up to be free, federated and interoperable. I have two questions that may come from my lack of expertise / knowledge, so I apologise in advance if they are dumb.

I've noticed that the "All" feed on Lemmy is pretty much the same across all instances, showing posts from every instance regardless of the specific focus or community vibe of the instance you're on. This seems like a missed opportunity to make the experience more tailored and engaging for each instance's unique audience.

First of all, I don't mean this post as a complaint, maybe more of a warning?

I'm diving into Lemmy, been on Masto since 2019. Also a big Reddit user trying to get away, and I hope to find a feature here that's an equivalent to MultiReddits (or 'Custom Reddits' as they seem to be called now).

Bluesky, which uses it, has been opened to federation now, and the standard basically just looks better than ActivityPub. Has anyone heard about a project to make a Lemmy-style "link aggregator" service on it?

A while ago I started loosing hope in the internet, even before ai it was mostly bots, and copy and paste articles. Everything is exponentially getting more and more malicious, with algorithms made to suck you in with obviously no care for the human user, just make stock go up, and make comically evil board members happy.

Does it exist? I miss when YikYak was for hometowns and you could view other cities or comment/post there if in range. I don't like its current state after coming back. It was like the neighbour apps but less facebooky with a crowd under 50, was the ultimate local news source.

There's so many ways to interact with the Fediverse. The most popular, by far, seems to be Mastodon, but Lemmy, Misskey, and Pixelfed are also relatively popular. Kbin used to be popular, but it has apparently been abandoned, and is mostly dead at this point.
