Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System

I’m just starting with Jellyfin, so I apologize if this question has already been answered or if it seems silly.

When I'm uploading a show to my server, or setting the subtitles or whatever, I'd like to have the show disabled and invisible to everyone until I have everything uploaded and set up at 100%. Is there a way to do this?

I've had my server running for over a year and it's been fantastic until last week. Suddenly, I'm having a lot of issues playing certain titles on certain devices, but none of it really makes sense to me. Here's what I know: I have two Roku TVs in separate rooms. Both are nearly identical models (and support the same codecs). One is directly connected to the server and the other uses a power line adapter or WiFi. The direct connection does not stutter when playing anything so far. The other tv is nearly unplayable with stuttering. My first thought was a network issue, but other apps (Netflix, etc) play just fine. I then thought it was transcoding ( I use QSV), but it doesn't make sense that the DC tv doesn't have the same issue. Other devices which connect over WiFi also have the same issue. Is there some way to tell through the logs if jellyfin is actively transcoding or failing to serve media in real-time? Or any other steps I could take to troubleshoot the root cause of my issues. Hey all. I use the Jellyfin Android app to control an MPV shim running on Linux (Arch, Plasma 6) and for the most part it works great. However, sometimes the app just completely loses track of what's playing or where in the video it is. I can still pause/play blind, but I'd like to be able to tell where I am in a season/episode. Any trick to dealing with this?

On my PC or android phone using the official apps I cannot watch videos, explore libraries or even access the admin dashboard.

Rather than manually or periodically letting tasks run from Scheduled Tasks, is there a way to run tasks when I start playing a file? For instance, if I start playing an episode of a show I'd like to at least have jellyfin check for matching subtitles and scan it for intro-skipper audio fingerprints.

I am running ubuntu with casa os. I was previously running an intel apu (the name has slipped me I will update the post when I can with this info). Recently I got a 1650 that I installed for nvenc transcoding. It seems all the proper drivers are installed but my jellyfin container still fails playback anytime with it turned on.

People resoundingly suggested using containers. So I've been reading up. I know some things about containers and docker and what not. But there are a few decision points in the jellyfin container install instructions that I don't know the "why".

The last post on the subject I could find was a year ago. So thought I would ask again. I have debian 12 up on miniPC and I have my NAS mounted. My intention is to use jellyfin and some of the arr* stuff. I know only a little about systemd (I just google what I need to know). I have some contianer knowledge, but mostly in k8s. And the docker parts aren't really my problem. But I have a vague understanding of docker. What are the latest pros and cons of containers vs service installation?

I have added an SSD to my computer that hosts Jellyfin where I want to have my Shows and Movies folders. When I go to add them to my library I get the following error:

I am not sure what I have done to my Jellyfin install. I have been having various issues with my computer that I am using for Jellyfin and when I fixed one (ran out of hard drive space) I now have this one. I do not believe Jellyfin is starting when I reboot my computer. Hey all after a few months of giving up on trying to get my server to run I tried again and made it even worse. On a tutorial I was watching it suggested changing the port number. It appears this was a mistake as I can no longer access my sever even after uninstalling the program and reinstalling it. I’ve been fighting it for about a hour if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this mess please let me know

I tried with m3u files and strm files. but nothing works. vlc can play my strm files with no problem. why can't jellyfin?

So I've been trying to use Jellyfin for a long, LONG time now, and I've never really been able to use it remotely reliable.

I got a second hand Synology DS916+. I am interested in installing Jellyfin on it with hardware transcoding support. I have read over the debacle of Synology removing the codecs support, but am confused whether this just impacts the Synology installed apps (Video Station, etc) or if it would also impact Jellyfin running in Docker.

I know audio fingerprinting intro skippers have existed now for a while. I just heard about media segments being introduced. Is there any project that combines the two to make an intro skipper that (eventually, ik segments aren't supported on most clients yet) work on other clients?

I have jellyfin, qbittorrent, radarr, sonarr, prowlarr. I end up with copies of things I download in two places, media folder, and then in a radarr or sonarr subfolder. Radarr and sonarr are configured to have their own dirs. Jellyfin has media libraries for movies and shows pointing to those same subdirs. But qbittorrent has a default save dir of the media dir.

I used to have a jellyfin server on an old desktop but now my only spare computer is a raspberry pi. It should be able to install the app but would a raspberry pi 3b+ actually be able to run a jellyfin server at a usable level? I'll probably mainly use it for CD rips, so it shouldn't be super demanding but the raspberry pi isn't super powerful either. What do y'all think?

I use Jellyfin for my music collection, and sometimes the album artist and artist fields for the same artist will be populated slightly differently. For instance, I have one case where there are three different ways using &, 'and' and +. I have removed these from my library, updating them with manually with MusicBrainz Picard to use the same spelling, and reuploaded them to my server. However, it uses the old metadata still.

Today I mounted a WebDav share to the host and passed it in to Jellyfin and added it to my library. Then, I realized that Jellyfin is downloading the entire contents of the mount as it scans the library (I can't actually see what it's downloading but it's been using 10mb/s for the past hour). So it's trying to download 1TB of media just to scan the library. I am not even trying to access anything. Is this normal?

So my plan based on reading was to get a mini pc and a nas. But then I realized... what is the best way to connect them. So I started doing more reading. And I confused myself.

Everytime I use Jellyfin I have to add a filter to see only not watched movies, is it possible to save the filters based on users?

Hi, I have a situation where I have a tv show in two different languages. One is original the other is dubbed. The dubbed episodes are cut differently than the original, so muxing the audio tracks together and use the original video track in an mkv file is impossible.

One day, I tossed some MAXIMUM THE HORMONE, all caps because it's... how it is, into my Music folder, which just happened to have the Japanese text identifying the band.

Is there a way to turn off incremental search? Either Web UI or apps: search seems to send a search instruction to server for every new letter added to the search box. I'ld much rather type a few letters (I usually sort of know what I'm looking for) and then click send or whatever to fetch results only for that. Would improve performance a lot for me

I have been trying for a long time to get hardware acceleration to work on Jellyfin via Docker and have gotten as far as getting nvidia-smi to successfully run -- which it wasn't previously.

I have a series in jellyfin. The first seasons are dubbed german, the later seasons are only in the original dub. Is it possible to force two separate entries for this season (e.g. "Example Series (German)" - containing Seasons 1-3 and "Example Series (English)" containing Seasons 4-6)? Problem is, that not all users that have access to this library are fluent in English and I want to avoid that they think this series is available in full only to switch the language halfway through...

Hey guys, I was using a webos client until recently and I used to adjust the subtitles when they were slightly out of sync using the settings on the video player. Now I’m using a Android Tv client (new tv) and there is no settings icon to do that or to look at the video properties. On my phone the icon is there and on the web version on my laptop too. Did I mess with some menu settings or something or there is no settings on the Android Tv app?

I’m using the Android tv app of Jellyfin. I usually have to select the subtitles twice. The first time I select subtitles, it will take a long time and eventually there will be an error message and no subtitles. If I then go in and select the same subtitles again, it usually works immediately.

This is maybe a little paranoid but... i have a jellyfin server that i let some family members use. one of them intends to use an app for apple tv, which i think is swiftfin or something like that. i am a bit skeptical about smart-TVs and the data they phone home with, so i was wondering if there is any chance that i could be compromised due to the linux isos i host on jellyfin due to some sneaky smart-TV stuff?

I have sequential downloads enabled on my torrent client, I have a download speed that is fast enough that the ETA for the full download of the media is shorter than the duration of the media itself, and I can watch it in IINA or VLC, but, unfortunately Jellyfin doesn't recognise any new media in my designated library folders until a decent amount of time AFTER the entire file is downloaded and has it's correct extension.

Hello everyone, I noticed that a lot of my music does not get any album art even though they correctly identified with MusicBrainz and the albums do have a cover on them there. Jellyfin does not have write permissions in the data directly where the music is, only read permissions. Though I would have expected that jellyfin uses the metadata folder for cover images not already present there. The reason Jellyfin doesn't have write permissions is that the folder is managed by nextcloud and that creates files with 750 so only read access for the group and jellyfin uses the group Does anyone know how I could solve the issue?

I've been wanting a "Next Up View All" in the main home screen of #Jellyfin #JellyFinRoku app for a long time and today someone merged it into main.

I have some 1440p videos that I've downloaded off youtube but they use either the AV1 or VP9 codec. I'd like to watch these on my phone but it can't direct play those codecs and my iGPU can't transcode them so it has to be done in software extremely slowly.

Until recently I stored my media library in folders. A tedious way to manage a collection.

I've been streaming to my chromecast having jellyfin-androidtv 0.16.11 without much issues, but from a few days now everytime I try to reproduce any video, even those previously reproduced on the device, all I get is a dark screen with the controls, but nothing is reproduced.

I am a bit late to the party in that I only today updated to the latest version. I now see that the intro skipper plugin from confused polar bear (or whathisname...) isn't working anymore. I guess that was bound to happen after the archiving of the repo.

All Sorting tv show options works on #JellyFin #Roku except sorting by date played. Tried it with Roku app ver2.0.7 and sideloaded 2.0.6dev. Jellyfin ver 10.9.6 and 10.9.7

I got a Synology NAS for my children’s photos and wanted my music to be available in our LAN as well. Jellyfin looked good and is open source so I gave it a try. I am very happy with Finamp as a mobile app to play and sync my library.

I've been using Jellyfin for about a year. I've experienced many sudden issues with speed or connectivity, but they usually self-resolve over the course of a few days (I'd love to hear what that's about).

I download Let's Play series off of Youtube and sort them to watch through Jellyfin at a later time. I also download the thumbnails. On June 9 I upgraded the Jellyfin server from 10.9.1 to 10.9.6 and thumbnail importing broke somewhere inbetween those two versions.

anyone got Chromecast with Google TV 4K working with Jellyfin? it runs Android TV, gets the Jellyfin app and then stuff starts breaking.
