Many companies and individuals are trying to mislead people about the future of GrapheneOS to promote their insecure products and services. GrapheneOS is not going anywhere. We've made it clear we're shipping Android 16 soon and that the supported devices will remain supported.

We received an ASN and IPv6 space for GrapheneOS from ARIN: AS40806 and 2602:f4d9::/40.

Android 16 QPR1 is finally being pushed to the Android Open Source Project. This should have happened on 2025-09-03. We migrated to full Android 16 QPR1 kernel code (GPLv2 tarball) and firmware in September. We couldn’t migrate userspace to QPR1 without it being pushed to AOSP.

Both of the November 2025 patches have been provided in our regular non-security-preview releases for over a month, so we’ve already had the 2025-11-05 Android security patch level for over a month. Our patch level is set based on providing both the Android and Pixel security patches, so we’re leaving it at 2025-11-01 until the Pixel stock OS release and Pixel Update Bulletin are published. The stock Pixel OS also included both November 2025 patches in early September. We expect they made a 2nd October release to ship the November carrier changes and will make a release in mid-November with patches from future Android Security Bulletins.

Pixel Camera recently added a hard dependency on Google Play services. It still works on GrapheneOS, but started requiring sandboxed Google Play services.

One of the changes in this release should result in Google Messages RCS working for users receiving a verification error caused by Play Store checking for an emulator with an easy to bypass check. It was already working for many users without this but this should get it working for everyone else.

This release adds official support for using RCS in Google Messages. Using this requires granting the Phone permission to Play services to provide carrier information to it, granting the required permissions to Google Messages and then setting Google Messages as the current carrier messaging app. Setting an app as the carrier messaging app provides it with device identifier access which is documented in our FAQ. However, Google Messages is a special case where part of the implementation is in Play services. We’ve dealt with this by special casing the device identifier permission check to detect when the user has granted this access to the official Google Messages app which then also provides the official Play services app with the same access. This doesn’t provide any extra access in practice since Google Messages shares the information with Play services.

Google and carriers deployed changes to RCS which have been breaking it for many users on the stock OS including with certain carriers and in whole countries. The changes appear to have specifically impacted GrapheneOS users too. It's not related to our September 8th update. We're working on it.

Pixels have provided hardware memory tagging (MTE) support since the Pixel 8. GrapheneOS deployed it in production around a month after the launch of the Pixel 8 and we use it for the kernel and nearly the entire base OS. We use it for some third party apps and users can opt-in to using it for all.

We have early access to Android Security Bulletin patches and will be able to set up a workflow where we can have releases already built and tested prior to the embargo ending. For now, we've still been doing the builds after the embargo ends. It will mainly help when they screw up pushing to AOSP.

Swissquote has launched official support for GrapheneOS for their main app instead of it only being available for Yuh:

It's much too early to ask us when we'll have support for the new Pixel 10 phones. They're only available for preorder. We need to have access to the devices and factory images before we can start working on this. If the new Pixels still provide proper alternate OS support, we can support them.
