Hello! I recently switched to LineageOS and have been enjoying it fine. However, certain apps just refuse to work without engoogling them, sadly, and I need help doing it without making my entire phone a google-shaped target.

I've been using Waze for the past year but I just looked it up and realised that it's also owned by Google. I tried using OsmAnd yesterday twice, but the first time I went through a tunnel it just stopped giving directions when I came out of the tunnel (a bug I assume). The second time on the way home, it took me down the wrong exit and I almost ended up at the airport!

Is using vivaldi instead of chrome considered degoogling? I have heard that it uses chromium as its engine, but I want to know whats the downside of that? Does it diretcly bring money to google by using a chromium based browser? Does google somehow collect data from it?

I'm looking for a wireless HDMI cable essentially, as that's the only way I use my chromecast. So I don't care about it running android or apps.

DDG, to its credit, behaves like search engines used to, that is you just get results, not "answers" however for all the ways they annoy, Google has over the years made advances where "answers" actually are what I want.

Do you know if there is an alternative to GoogleTV or AndroidTV as the OS on the TV set? I've seen one or two projects but those are more oriented towards TV boxes rather than the television device itself.

Hi all, in the slow process of degoogling one of the key points for me would be to remove the pucks I have been using for a few years for the WiFi mesh network at home. I know of a few alternatives but not a single one that respects my privacy (not gonna get rid of google just to switch to amazon), that allows me control of the network locally without accessing some backend of some company or anything. I don't quite need access from outside the network if that makes it easier to find some option.

I'm using DDG or searx for all my casual searching, but haven't been able to find a good search engine for scholarly articles specifically. Scrolling through pages upon pages of forum posts and educational stuff for teens/kids is unfortunately too time consuming when I'm specifically looking for research papers. I'd also need to be filtering by year of publication since I need to know what's currently going on in my field, not what was going on 30 years ago.

Hello. I have been trying to DeGoogle for about one month, migrating from Google to other services. But the biggest obstacle is Android, which is deeply embedded with Google services and, of course, trackers. It's really, really hard to replace it with alternatives. There are no alternatives I know that are compatible with my phone. Maybe I will have to buy a new phone, or look for even more alternatives, or code my own operating system (OS) (but I can't code!). I don't know whether I can De- this Android. Hmmm...

Looking to start the process, and want to host my own domain for email so I don't have to repeat this when changing email providers in the future again. Does anyone have any recommendations of solid ones with a focus on privacy and are reliable? I've heard Namecheap is good, but would love other recommendations.

Hello, I am considering de-googling my mobile experience. It seems like Samsung has bad security on their phones, which is why GrapheneOS is not available on Samsung phones, I guess. Ironically, *google* pixel phone is supposed to be the best fit for GrapheneOS.

I have been curious about degoogled android operating system options but my phone is galaxy a54. Through the options I could find they do not mention any support for this model. Any advice on this?

Hello guys! A few days ago my current phone fell flat on its screen and it cracked. It's still usable, but its already quite old, and I've been wanting to switch to Fairphone because I like what they are doing as a company, and I like that I can get a device with a degoogled OS directly from them.

Looking to switch my photos over to immich hosted on my PC. I want to be able to: + send photos from my phone to PC + delete them off of my phone and have them safe on my PC + I don't need to do this all the time, so I figured immich on my local network is fine. Then I don't have to figure out wireguard.

So Google decided to swap out batteries for free on Pixel 4a phones. I have two of them running LineageOS without Google, but I'd really like some fresh batteries. But I don't know if Google will accept my phone. Did anyone already try to get the free replacement? How did you do it and how did it work?

I have to update a phone that currently has LOS, and degoogle it at the same time. If I just upgrade to the latest version (by flashing) and not install mind the gapps, is it basically a degoogled phone? It seems that installing /e/ over the current LOS would require me to flash stock rom first, which takes more time. The current LOS version on the phone was just 1 or 2 iterations below the latest version, 20 or 21 I don't remember.

Today I unlocked a device I have that is not degoogled. A Play Store notification appeared about 1 update being available for an app called "Android Switch". However when I opened the Play Store to update it (I have automatic updates disabled), there were no updates (even after checking manually) and searching for the mentioned app in the settings didn't give any results.

Just about an hour ago, I received an email informing me that my YouTube account was terminated for violations of their "scams, spam, and deceptive content" policy. The email was long winded about how I must've uploaded something or other, or commented spammy/scammy content.

On my new phone I’m tempted to switch from LineageOS for microG to IodéOS, just for the ease of a dedicated installer. What are your experiences of pros and cons?

I use Google Shopping (the “Shopping” tab on Google) to see if local stores carry certain products, what they cost, how far away each store is, etc. It seems to mostly search national or large regional chains, but it was still pretty useful.

So I finally came across a proprietary app that has broken notification support on my degoogled phone and there don't seem to be any alternative ways (like what Telegram FOSS or Signal do) to get it working. I tried a solution called ntfy but it didn't work. So is there a way to get it working now (preferably without utilizing Firebase because Google can read it all you know)?

I'm looking for an alternative Youtube front-end for Linux Desktop but FreeTube for example doesn't support resolutions higher than 1080p. Is there an easy to use client, that supports 1440p and higher out-of-the-box?

I, switched from Google FI because of lack of customer support and services that were getting less and less, but more costly and costly. I went to T-Mobile. Good service, much the same as Google fi is a first party mvno. Anyway I use a private dns. NextDns. T-Mobile had no clue what a dns was and the super had to Google it. They SEVERELY THROTTLE if you use next dns.

I'm pretty far into the degoogling process, and I'm thinking about purchasing a domain and using it for email. I realized I don't want to be stuck with any one email service, so this is pretty much a necessity for me.
