I guess the feeling that there needs to be a purpose, that there has to be a “goal.” I struggle with days off work, because I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. I worry that I’m a failure across my life, I don’t know what it means to have done my life “right.”

I know /how/ to date in itself, but I'm curious how other AuDHDers go about meeting people to date. Ive only been let down and demoralized using mainstream apps, and the advice of "go find a group hangout" feels very antithetical to my entire being. I hate being in large groups where I know no one. I'm pretty jaded by the idea of just waiting for that right person to come along too, when it feels like it has happened, there's usually a reason we can't even entertain dating, such as meeting them after they've just started a new relationship with someone. I feel ready and would really enjoy finding someone that doesn't need all the masks and can love me for who I am, but I feel like I don't know how to go about meeting the right person.

Almost two years have passed since my initial "Hold on, could I have ADHD too?" moment (for reference: I'm 27). Turns out I do not only have severe ADHD, but Asperger's too. I've had a suspicion before that I might be autistic but it's kinda funny how the doctor dropped this on me before I even had a chance to ask.

I've been thinking about how LLMs like ChatGPT change the expectation that at any time, anywhere, you will have the information you need at your fingertips.

How not just give up? There is nothing left, no viable career options, hobbies are pointless because there's just no improvement past certain point anyway, no alleviation to the fucking constant hurt that's AuDHD. And *nobody* gets it, nobody.

In the middle of a conversion I will start to bring up a helpful quote or some random fact that's loosely related but then I can't remember what it is. I start to speak and then just blank at "that reminds me." After that I then forget what the original context was so then I'm just lost.

Or health, in a sense. Recently I've been seriously overworking myself, but the only signs that I can notice early on are mental. Such as being unable to stay on a task or project for more than 10 minutes at a time max, or forgetting how to talk properly and slurring my speech.

Hi I might loose my job tomorrow. For the most Part of my Life i was able to fit in with society. All-ways while ignoring my own mental health. Aka Masking I was diagnosed ADHD when i was a kid, but never got Meds or a treatment back then.

psychiatrist looked at the neuropsychologic evaluation results of autism+adhd and was not convinced. not that there isn't anything going on, but he thinks my case isn't as conclusive as the results claim it to be and i'm still open to be diagnosed with maybe other kind of personality disorder (perhaps ocd). he's not discarding autism either, he's just adding other possibilities

To cope, I’ve found that repeating certain positive affirmations like “I can do anything,” “I’m awesome,” etc. helps me feel more confident in myself. It’s not about being arrogant, but more like a mental trick to push through my insecurities and feel better in the moment.

Hi all, I just wanted to say hello. I’m an adult and came to realize in the past few years only that I’m probably on the spectrum given some of my tendencies. When I was a kid there was no label autism other than the most extreme cases. As it turns out, my son - late teens - is on the spectrum and also has ADHD. He struggles with a variety of aspects but he’s also strong and insightful. He learns about himself more all the time, and I also have the benefit of being able to relate to some of his challenges.

So I know that despite the classic portrayal of an autist being someone who is asexual, many of us are at the opposite end of the scale. Yet if you search for Lemmy communities, there are several for asexual folk and none for hypersexual folk. Is there any good resources for us to rant/support each other/talk about our struggles? If it were specifically for neurodivergent folk, that would be a great bonus.

My train of thought has gone down the same path hundreds of times when bored. There is no new realisation about that topic that remains to be had. And yet every time my inner monologue goes down the same well trodden path. It almost hurts at this point. I don't really choose the topic, it's usually just one I've come into contact with repeatedly and they change over the years. I commute by bus and the monologue is always at the same point at the same point in the journey. I am going crazy. How do I turn this off.

I'm curious to see the types of jobs and work fields that us audhders thrive in since a lot of jobs usually just end up burning us out.

I can't work on maths problems: by the time I key a calculation into my calculator I've forgotten what I was actually calculating.

I'm not sure where else to vent. I don't want to seem like I'm playing the victim as everyone else in this community is having the same executive functioning issues I'm having and I don't mean to distract from those things but having to navigate these issues while being constantly reminded of my race is exhausting.

As someone facing homelessness myself due to issues beyond my control, I just wanted people to know they're not alone.

I find it so hard to find anyone compatible. I’m basically slowing down my dating efforts because it just makes me miserable. Are there any success stories out there? Common personality types that pair surprisingly well? Anything?

I'm curious if anyone out there reading who lives with ADHD and/or ASD w/executive dysfunction ... when it comes to tasks that aren't just your own but that involve (or are needed by) others, for example household tasks when living with others ... do you find that you actually need consensus and/or discussion on the topic of tasks in order to get them done?
