Not just a rich man, the nepo baby of a Democratic party power broker, apparently
FTA:
“Unfortunately, when politics pervades justice, the rule of law becomes subordinate to influence and power…a conviction can be rendered meaningless not by the verdict of a jury, but by the intervention of political power and connections,” the ACPO spokesperson wrote. “Justice must be blind to status, relationships, power, and expediency; when it is not, the community loses faith in the very system meant to protect it.”
Not exactly, but peaceful marches allow you to network. That’s a big part of the real value.
Not that this is going to help. You cannot comply your way out of fascism; more than likely, they’ll just rip the passport off, throw it away, and say “I don’t see a passport”
If they think that a lack of justification is going to stop the fascists, they’ve got another think coming. Even if the response is completely non-violent, the fascists will just get tired of waiting and invent their own excuses, like they always do.
Reminder that “armed with a gun” is not the same as brandishing or shooting. In most parts of the US, it’s perfectly legal to be armed with a pistol.
It doesn’t have to be, but it can be. I’m in the same boat, and I’m working hard at the local politics level to try to build a better world for them.
*catastrophic wildfires, I assume
Wildfires are part of the natural ecology for some areas, like California, and actually contribute to ecological well-being as long as they’re low intensity.
I agree with this take. It was the dehumanization of the Nazis that led to people saying “oh, well it can’t happen here. Those guys were inhuman monsters, and not at all like my neighbor Bill who just likes complaining about immigrants an unhealthy amount”
Let me rephrase that: two bozos who shouldn’t be driving parked so badly they derailed a train.
So this would be really neat for an Apollo (H:ZD) style repository of knowledge in case of global civilizational collapse. I’d love to give the people three hundred years down the road a hand and help them build solar panels and make penicillin. I’d love to share our stories with them, or at least leave them a copy of Bill Wurtz’s History of the Entire World, I Guess. This seems like a great use case for that, only the question I keep coming back to is “how do we tell them how to read it?”
“First, make a computer”? After global civilizational collapse?
And before anyone says books, let me point you to the Library of Alexandria, Nalanda University (it’s said the university smoldered for a month after the mongols torched it), and the Bronze Age Collapse. Fire and Water have a way of making books disappear, this at least seems far more durable and much more information dense.
I get the feeling that Ricky is the kind of person who believes he is uniquely smart, or at least that everyone else is very stupid, and gets quietly offended about it if you challenge that idea.
How the hell did he do a long term bet against the market? Aren’t shorts short-term and they’re forced to pay after a set period of time? Even the inverse indexes will steadily make your money simply vanish.
it's not a compelling argument for the likes of you or me, but for the poor ultra-wealthy and powerful of the world, it often makes the spark of compassion in a judge's heart flare brightly.
OTOH, speaking as someone who worked in EMS for over a decade, the number of firefighters and EMS workers that radiate 3.6 Roentgen of Hitler particles is unnervingly high. I'm guessing this is shock that the leopard would eat THEIR face.
At last, zero self awareness, wow.
mantises must, because I've seen them in my squash, as well as mantises, and got a squash harvest just fine.
okay, next question: why aren't they getting those sterols?
follow up: are wild, native bees also affected, or is it just the European honeybees?
... for dinner? Where's the rest of the sentence?
stop removing bike lanes, start removing car lanes
