Does being in Hawaii automatically disqualify me from 95% of tech jobs?

Has anyone successfully found a job using LinkedIn's 'Easy Apply' options?

applied internally to a role thatd be a nice pay pump. its a data role with a strong emphasis on python and sql skills. i studied my ass off on data concepts anticipating questions like "how would you start solving xyz problem" or "how would you find business insights on zyx" and the first question is "whats the difference between a dict and a list in python?" or hell, even a leetcode-like question. i like to think im decent at USING python and sql, but not having used them in a current role in ~2 years, these google-search-esque questions threw me off guard. i fumbled making up answers for a few but some i straight up had to say i have no fkn clue. so todays been a bit of a demeaning experience! has anyone else ever had an interview where they asked questions like that?

Hello all! I've been a Software Developer for almost 15 years now, and after staying at my last few companies for only 2 years each, I'm starting to think about the possibility of becoming a freelancer/contractor. I'm looking for more flexibility in my work and getting out of parts of the corporate culture that I have grown to dislike.

I have been a software engineer of off highway farm equipment for most of my life. I have like 15 years of it. I have just lost the ability to care about it anymore.

So I'm getting my associates this semester, technically under compsci. Can't really do much with an associates though, and I need a job in the mean time, so I've been studying CompTIA certs (A+, NET+, and soon I'll be taking a course for Sec+).

Im kinda broke and I want to make some money but just can't find any ways. I live in a remote area so there are no jobs. I don't mean making thousands of dollars but a few just to buy a new Cod or some Nikes. I ain't doing any gay shit or sending my pictures!

I'm a software developer (desktop/enterprise) working full-time. I made a lateral move to this position without a CS degree. The tech stack in the workplace is niche, down to the language, consequently limiting my marketability. Here and there I picked up some experience with some industry-standard languages on the job (Java, Python, C++, SQL), but in very limited scope. It's been several years, I'm in my late 30s and in a spot.

I'm still in my learning phase and I make many small projects as I learn. Is putting all of them on Github a good idea, if I want to put it on my resume in the future, or would having too many repositories on Github a bad thing?

I have a degree in information systems which was a mix between business and IT. While I in my initial job search was really close on heading in the direction of becoming a developer, I instead landed a role as a business systems analyst as well as working with digital transformation. So basically I'm in the land between IT and the business. I do some super light programming for the platform I'm responsible for but I feel like it's the kind of stuff you could learn in a day. I know some basic Java, Python and C# but not really enough that I'd see me landing a job that isn't a trainee developer position or a job for newly-grads where the company doesn't expect you to know anything at first.

As stated in the title. I've worked in IT for over 15 years despite having no related degree.

Please mention the number of people in the startup, as it experiences probably vastly differ based on size

When I come across such infographics with tips, I sometimes wonder, if you follow all these tips, then where will you find the time to program? Of course, all this is useful, but every developer knows how much you want to get done with all public affairs and immerse yourself in the code, especially if it is the code of a project that you love. And on the contrary, if you have to write a rotten project, with a stupid team, while working for a mercantile scumbag, no matter what you do, you will be sick of work. What is the conclusion here? Either you do what you love; or love what you do. And you will have much more free time. What about burnout? We are all phoenixes...

Hello all! I'm a senior dev at a bank and am considering making my second attempt at Amazon's interview process. My first attempt was almost two years ago. Made it through the code challenge but not the four interviews.

I'm a career transitioner looking to get a higher paying job working as a Web Developer. I've been self teaching for a bit over 3.5 years now and am currently working part time at a very small start up while still working on my own personal projects and slowly researching and studying CS topics.

There's this new thing (to me) going around called "automated recruitment". From contacting candidates, to assessment, to (sometimes even) job offer, the person just goes through a pipeline. There are a few products that provide this experience and others that only do a part (contact, assessment, contract + onboarding, whatever else).

I'm currently studying CS and I'll get my bachelor's degree next year. I've been searching for remote SWE internships for months now and have not had any luck. I even made a project to put on my resume and it's still just rejection email after rejection email. Maybe I need more projects? What tips do you have for getting an Internship?

Seems like a pretty common pattern to move from elsewhere in the world to the Silicon Valley, curious to see if people want to share experiences.

I feel like lately a lot of job boards have become populated with scams, training courses disguised as jobs and the few jobs that are posted are just posted for show. Indeed.com is a good example as it used to be decent some years ago and now it's hard to find an actual listed job. Linkedin is okay so far.

What talking with a friend who transitioned from marketing into cloud (AWS) and then into security, and he spends a lot of time studying to ensure he understands all the concepts required for technical discussions.

Curious to see the answers, as I know some people just work a few hours per day

Asking because I'm currently in a pretty happy position. Work is chill, colleagues are nice, full remote, pay is quite good. I've been here for one year and a half, and I could see myself staying here almost long term. My practice lead has been here for more then 10 years, he still seems pretty happy.

Hey, I'm a self-taught programmer who started at age 11 and ended up learning webdev. I'm in my early 20s now.

We usually hear that it's London or Zurich due to high salaries being available there, but the high cost of living might take away a good part of it.

I am planning to write some articles related to tech news to pass time. I am just wondering whether it is a good thing to include those in resume to strengthen my portfolio. I don't really mind writing them even if it doesn't, but I just have some space in my resume that could be filled with some good things.

If you look up my username on LinkedIn, you can get a good summary of my career. Most of my jobs have been go in, fix things, then on to the next thing; though the immediate COVID period was pretty bumpy in that regard (shorter-term gigs). I'm pretty sure I need another cert or two at this point, but have had some family issues distracting me the past few months from studying/focusing on what's next. I'm also working three different things right now (1 5-10hr/wk PT job + 2 intermittent gigs). I can't remember the job market being this bad or picky in my life; and I actively wonder how I'd be able to leave the field entirely. It feels like everyone wants a unicorn on the cheap these days.

I just graduated with a B.S. in CS in May 2023. I've been working at a big non tech company in a data engineering type of role with AWS and Terraform. My team's culture, team members, and PTO hours are great. The work is easy, but I also don't learn much from it.

What do you think about applying (or hiring) applicants who have experience but not in the specific stack of the job? I've found jobs in fields I'm passionate about, but I don't always have matching experience in the stack. Does YOE matter more than stack or is stack experience quintessential?

I know some basic HTML, CSS. JS, and very little React -- I'm learning it currently. One of the things I see mentioned online is freelancing as a way to earn income. Now, I've tried this before in the past on UpWork, and it was nearly impossible to get anything out of it, I rarely received a response and that required submitting a lot of proposals which in turn cost a lot of money.

I'm extremely scared my career is fucked. My GitHub username is linked to my real identity. However if someone were to search my username up, the reddit profile of someone who posts regularly on porn subs and tweets inflammatory political shit appears.

For the past year and so many months, I've been in a front-end web developer boot camp. It's self-paced, and for the concepts I know, I feel as though I have a decent grasp on how to use them. Still, based on my failed freelancing attempt and the job requirements I see listed often, it seems like it'll be a long time until I can get a job.

I went into college when I was 17 (Associate’s Degree, which I regret), started my first job when I was 19 in a 10 people tech startup doing very simple tasks, went into another startup when I was 20, and then entered a large tech enterprise when I was 21, and now I’m 24 in the same company doing basically nothing productive or interesting.
