I’m looking for engaging without being dense. So something like a light Stephen King, also I love post apocalyptic stuff but I’ve read most of it. Not a fan of short stories.

So I posted here yesterday that on the latest episode of the podcast we’d talked about Carrion Crow by Heather Parry.

I am looking for a nice book light that can also last me a while. I have one by energizer, and while it’s not bad, battery time isn’t too great for my liking.

I read a ton of Stephen King as a kid and I think my kid will be into it, but I’m not sure which book would be a good entry point. He has so many different types of story from weird to horror to mind bending. What would you use as a good entry for his horror? For an 11 year old.

We all have at least one: the title(s) that you still haven’t finished weeks, months, even years after you started reading it, but nevertheless you are determined to finish… someday.

Just hit pg 179 of the “remastered, full-color edition” of Mark Z. Danielewski’s “House of Leaves” and I need to gush about it somewhere. Obviously some (mild) spoilers on my end, but I’d appreciate no spoilers in the discussion below.

Finished Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.

Reading Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. It, and couple of others, were recommended here recently, and is somewhat of a new genre for me, memoir / biography in graphic novel format, graphic memoir?

I’m curious about where I can find public lists of banned books across various states in the US. Are these lists openly accessible to the public, or do they mainly remain internal documents shared between the government and libraries?

I’m not sure if anyone in this community is doing this type of thing, but I know that there is a volunteer community of ebook editors. I’ve come across some books in my field that have very poor ebooks and I’d like to try editing them at least for my own use and, where appropriate, public consumption. I’ve tried using the built in Calibre Ebook editor which is functional but a bit of a slog. Is there dedicated software (preferably FOSS) That is really great for editing ebooks? Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

I'm just curious. I've tried searching, and I'm really not finding anything. I had on a documentary, and just thought a book about a magic woman or women, secretly witnessing the hysteria woud be neat. Benevolently, or malevolenty. I'd accept short stories, film or comics, or whatever.

So, in the last ten days I've been reading the "dumb luck and dead heroes" series by Skyler Ramirez. I stumbled onto this series on Goodreads, probably in the "also enjoyed" section for another book.

I've somewhat recently become addicted to audiobooks. Every time I'm in my car or doing something mindless I put on an audiobook. I had a good stretch of one book I liked after another but now am looking to dig a little deeper. The books I've listened to so far were all books that I kept seeing being recommended over and over again.

Started Whispers Underground by Ben Aaronovitch. Book 3 of Rivers of London series.

I just decided to read this book and notices that there is a note on each chapter. Does it add to the story in some way? Is it at least interesting?

I was told if you have 1000 books you are official library. I just catalog all the books me and my wife have and it came out at 900. If I included books I have duplicates in I would have 913 books. So close but so far away. I look forward to expanding my collection. But at same time I wouldn't mind having this whole collection in ebook form so that I could travel and still have access to all my books.
