Weekly post was a bit irregular last few weeks, but we are back to Tuesday now.

This post has been written with the intention of starting a conversation surrounding the discourse about dark romance, because I am tired of seeing opinions that are pure black and white from both sides. Feel free to disagree or agree with this post, I am only here to share my personal opinion.

Very busy couple of weeks, so didn't actually read anything.

For me, I have very little in my life, so it's something of an escape into another world.

Finished Amulet series by Kazu Kibushi.

It was talked about like a really big deal, and that it dealt a blow towards the Controlled Digital Lending-scheme. IA also had to remove 500k books. But how is Internet Archive able to keep continuing lending out many books as they were before? What were the real consequences of Hachette v. Internet Archive?

Finished Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson. Book 2 of second era of Mistborn.

I don't mind supporting authors, but I'd preferably like to avoid supporting DRM. What publishers or authors out there sell their books without DRM?

What are some good books similar to the feelings and disturbing nature that American Psycho creates?

I was looking around and found these two that I think look good. 

Looking for some self-contained grimdark books to read. Most of the genre seems to be the form of trilogies or even longer series, but I'm not looking to start a long project right now. Just a single story within one book, and then move on to other stuff (unless I get hooked..)

I have been a bit busy, and with not too much motivation to do much, so am still at the same place as last week.

Seems like many are moving towards LCP in the future for e-books. But last I heard the NoDRM gang had to exclude the LCP DeDRM from the Calibre plugin due to legal issues (GitHub), and either way it was for an older version of LCP so it wouldn't work nowadays. Do you think someone will come up with a way to DeDRM these?

Apparently many libraries, including the ones in my country, are moving over to a system where you're not allowed to digitally download the epub file anymore. You're only allowed to borrow the book, and read it, in a closed ecosystem: an app. This per definition then excludes the majority of e-ink readers that don't run Android. This is due to Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on the accessibility requirements for products and services (Text with EEA relevance) (source) entering into force June 28 this year.

I have tried a lot of plugins and sites but haven't found anything yet. does anyone have any information?

I have this intense craving for a novel about riding the train basically. My issue is I don’t want it to just be a setting amidst a larger plot. No train murder stories, no regular stories that just happen to take place on a train.

The Masquerades of Spring is the latest novella by Ben Aaronovitch. It takes place in the Rivers of London universe, but is set in Harlem, New York, in the 1920s. As with the longer RoL books it has a first person narrator, in this case Augustus "Gussie" Berrycloth-Young, a young Englishman living in New York. He was a contemporary of Thomas Nightingale at Casterbrook School, where young British gentlemen of the magical persuasion have been educated for generations, and was connected with the Folly (headquarters of the Society of the Wise) but is now a man of leisure, enjoying a life of jazz clubs, parties and gay hedonism.

I've mostly watched anime for the past two years and got a craving for a book.

As the title says I need break. With all the news and everthing going on I want to focus more on reading. But before I do that here is all the books I have read and listen to for the year 2024.

Read Turn Coat, book 11 of the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher.

Hi all. I'm looking to explore contemporary lit fic but I really don't know where to start.

The local high school is considering redoing their selections for their 9th grade Sci Fi unit and I’m privileged enough to be able to provide suggestions. Currently they have a choice of *Ender’s Game* by Orson Scott Card, *The Adoration of Jenna Fox* by Mary E Pearson, *Scythe* by Neil Shusterman, and *Unwound* also by Shusterman.

Finished The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson. Book 1 of 2nd era of Mistborn. This was a very interesting book. Set about 300 years after the first era. The changes in the world, and to learn about some of the characters, it was all very interesting, and I am very glad that I re-read the first era before reading this.

hey there, i need some Book suggestions. I love Fantasy/Urban Fantasy and Space Opera First things first MC must be female. I realy love Kate Daniels from Ilona Andrews or Elena Guild Hunter Series from Nalini Singh or The Innkeeper Series from Ilona Andrews.

If that even makes sense. Perhaps I'm wishing for a book that doesn't or cannot exist. I want to read something that is relaxing while stimulating and satisfying curiosity. I dont want something juvenile. It's ok if it's deep and thought provoking, but doesn't have to be. It should not have conflict.

Finished The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson. The climax and resolutions was really good, even on my 2nd re-read. Finally done with the first era! Wanted to jump right into next book to find out what happens to that one character, but next book is hundreds of years in the future.

Did he? Or was it like that even back then? I'm reading this book, and it's like a carbon copy of our world in the US nowadays. I keep yelling "oh my god, this is basically happening right now!!!" Not as blatant and (I don't know the word) as in the book, but essentially the same. The book is like now, but on steroids (to explain the word I'm missing). The divide/polarization, the police brutality, the pollution, corporations and exploitation, the government's overreach..... Etc, it's all here now.

Just finished reading this book, and it was very moving. I've read one other book by Frederick Backman (And every day the way home gets longer), and loved it as well. Please suggest some books in the same style of these books (a bit more feel good like Ove would be great, but fine either way)

As a memoir, I find it very fascinating, though many of the individual stories are the result of games of telephone and hardly reliable; same as all oral histories. And, of course, the numbers suggested are deeply outdated by the fall of the SovUnion and the opening of the Soviet archives.
