Countries should go further to de-anonymize users and regulate behavior on online mainstream social media platforms

submitted by edited

I don’t think it should be legal to anonymously create a facebook, instagram,X,tiktok, reddit account. Without having accounts traceable back to an identify illegal behavior never stops and the person is never held accountable. Online crimes but are unenforceable as long as anonymity is permitted. There is little to no good that comes from anonymously creating an account compared to the massive amounts of harm. Implementing restrictions does not affect 99.99% of the population and only filters out the tiny minority of people who represent a disproportional amount of harm on the platform.

I still think anonymity should be permitted on tor, i2p and less popular sites.

Yeah many folk have a problem with ubiquitous cameras in the public space. I think we just disagree here. If you are fine with cameras then yeah you are going to be fine with this online solution. People like myself are not fine with it at all.

Then you can go into the schizo bucket. Most people are fine with it some may not like it but they accept it is necessary to reduce risk of crime. No one worries like oh no someone is spying on me through the CCTV no one has time for that and no one cares enough about you to do so.

or schizo is thinking they know what everyone thinks. I guess you only had one nay sayer given your reply. Oh wait I looked through the post and you have many people disagree. So by no one and most you really mean im going to say whatever I want and be disengenous.

im sorry I dont look at a comment section of 20 people and think thats representative of the average population. it could be 100 people disagreeing in there and its still off by 10000000x. We know average people are fine with it because most of the time they are the ones putting these cameras up.

and taking them down. sometimes it takes some time for people to realize what they have given up.

People rarely take them down. Maybe you get some schizo kid who does but most people dont feel the need to.

yeah I think you have been out of the loop news wise. people have been canceling flock and finding they still are collecting crap and taking out or disabling them.

You think that because people are taking down flock cameras in parts of the US it applies to CCTV in public spaces all around the world? Am I suppose to read those and think “wow I guess people have finally woken up and started valuing privacy in public spaces”

you were the one who suggested because people put them up. that implies individuals. public ones have never been popular with people but sure are with governments.

Yes. They’re put up by individuals, business and government. Ring is extremely popular

yeah ring is the thing I was talking about that people were getting rid of.

I think you read an article that “reported” people getting rid of Ring based on nothing. In reality sales are increasing rapidly and they are becoming more and more common in the US and around the world. A lot of the tech journalism is completely false they know they can report whatever make their audience feel good/mad and no one really cares if its true or not.

and I think you want to find facts that fit your viewpoint and im likely biased to my own. I really don’t care what the majoritys view is though in relation to my own. I certainly don’t like the current administration in my country and that would not change if the president had massive popularity among the people. Needless to say I like the internet but don’t need to engage in it. Sure I might have to do banking and keep my email but I don’t need to be on social media. So if your wonderland ultimate bestus internet comes to be I just won’t be a part of it.

I dont want to find facts that fit my view point. What I’m telling you goes against my ideal worldview. I wish everyone in the world didnt have a ring doorbell but thats the world we live in. People have made it extremely clear there is no expectation of privacy in a public space and theyve made it clear they do not care about data collection. So I think given that this is the reality I can look at these as options available to fight against things i consider to be genuine issues.

You likely already are acting completely within what im proposing so it wouldnt affect you at all. Maybe you’re creating multiple accounts with obscured IP and hardware id to multi log on each service.
