I was browsing Craigslist late last night when I came across this Danelectro 56 U-3 reissue from the 90s. It was a pretty good deal with a hard case thrown in so I felt the need to jump on it. She’s in terrific condition with the person I bought it from being the original owner. 3 lipstick pickups, aluminum nut, gotoh tuners, slim neck, and no dings. I can’t wait to plug her in later tonight!

My dream acoustic. Made with a AAAA grade German spruce top (very tight-grained, cream color which should darken nicely over time), and a unique AAAA grade, flamed kihada back and sides. Kihada comes from the Amur cork tree, an indigenous hardwood in Japan. It is very rarely found flamed like this. Mahogany neck, spoke-shaved by hand in a soft-V to C shape with satin finish. Simple and elegant appointments in a very Japanese minimalist style. Forward-shifted x bracing, and it is all hand crafted in the Yairi workshop located in the city of Kani, in the Gifu prefecture, Japan. Yairi guitars, for those who know them, are remarkable instruments. Enjoy the pics. This was one of twelve (12) created in this configuration.

This is an old classical guitar, it might be up to seventy years old. It buzzes with every note but it's the loudest on the G string. Please help.

Just got this vertical 4x12 from Zilla. Got it to pair with this VHX. It currently has four k100's in it, but I'm planning to swap a couple for v30's in a different cab. The vertical 4x12 with the tip-back wheels and handles are really cool - I got this thing up a couple flights of stairs myself without too much trouble, and it sounds great. I gotta say, this form factor solves a lot of problems with the typical 4x12 - posting here so hopefully more guitar nerds see it! Zilla (and Paul!) are great to work with, and make really solid stuff.

Not going to go through the whole story, but this was NOT the guitar I was looking for. It was instead the guitar that found me.

I ordered this on a whim but I am probably going to sell it. It is a wonderful guitar but I prefer a beefier neck. This guitar is absolutely ideal for someone with small hands.

As I said in the last post I made, I had the intention to upgrade the guts of my newly bought guitar. I switched out potentiometers and pickup selector for something that wouldn’t feel as cheap, added a coil split mode through push/push pot and added a treble bleed to brighten up the tone. Everything I needed I found on Thomann.

… but I had such a good deal with this guitar that I couldn’t miss the opportunity.

My first guitar string snapped and it launched a small circular pin somewhere. I looked up how to restring guitar strings and other peoples stringboard look different than how mine is set up. the pins I have aren't long and straight they are small circular things fitted into a small hole in the wood. What are these kinds of pins called? Can I upgrade to standard guitar pins?

So, I had this amp lying around in my father's basement for a while now. 13 years to be precise: It was my first practice amp back when I bought my first electric guitar. The circuit wasn't half bad, had a cool gritty marshally sound with an analogical spring reverb, but unfortunately the speaker was trash. 30 watts RMS are hard to handle for an 8 inches cheap speaker, so one morning, after an intense early '00s punk rock rehersal it simply went BZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz..... and it was gone. And finding a new speaker that wouldn't blow up again, expecially one with such required specifications, was something I couldn't achieve 13 years ago. So eventually I gave up searching for spares and I bought a new amp.

I have been working on a dual humbucker (HH) Strat clone and have been researching 5-way switching options. Remarkably, this information is ridiculously difficult to find. Most dual humbucker (HH) guitars appear to be wired with standard Les Paul style wiring (3 positions only) or use other fancy switching options like push-pull posts. There is very sparse information on using 5 way switches you would find on a Strat. I thought I would archive some of my findings here.

New to me 2003/4 Godin Kingpin I cleaned it up a bit and put new strings on. Really happy with it.

The PRS SE NF3 is a distinct guitar in the PRS lineup. The heart of this guitar is a trio of PRS Narrowfield pickups, a first for the SE Series. Supporting these pickups is a poplar body, 22-fret bolt-on maple neck, and the choice of either a rosewood or maple fretboard. The SE NF3 is a versatile workhorse guitar that is fun to play and hard to put down. The Narrowfield DD (Deep Dish) “S” pickups are made with taller bobbins to fit more winds and extra metal pieces in between the magnets for a more focused, powerful tone.

This friend was gifted to me by my next door neighbour in 2009, when I was 17 and it has been love ever since.

This is not the first partscaster I've built but it is the first Telecaster-styled partscaster I've attempted. I have learned the following lessons:

Last year I bought an Harley Benton Telecaster and I loved it right away. Today I'm going to make it even better by upgrading its weak spots like the tuners, the electronics and the plastic nut. I'm also going to mod the wiring with a 4-way switch and adding a "pickup in series" mode. Wish me luck.

I really enjoy this site, it has helped me learn a lot. There's a lot of useful tools, I especially like the chord analyzer.

I won't profess to be a design mastermind, but it was a fun process. I learned a lot and it was a lot of fun.

Last month a friend of mine gifted me his 1997 Epiphone Les Paul 100. He bought it at a pawn shop 15 years ago, played twice and left it at his parents' house since. It was all beat up and dusty, the wood was so dry and brittle that when I poured olive oil in the truss rod shaft, it made the sound of someone taking the last sip of soda with a straw. The stock electronics were really cheap to begin with and all this time made them disgustingly crunchy.
