She was living and working in Oakland on a work permit, with a pending asylum case. Recently, while trying to return home to Oakland, she was detained by ICE at the Denver airport. In a shocking turn of events, she was taken from the jetway and hustled into an unmarked van on the tarmac.

yeah to add to it myself and others I have seen on here from the us and talked to in real life talk about our countries personal enshitification. Its kinda hard to describe but common goods and services are much poorer in quality and take much longer. It really is like the soviet union was portrayed in the 80’s. Things are working but barely for the average person. If you have money you can economically push things through. Turns out it does not matter if choice is limited because the government controls production or because a few mega corps do.

This, in turn, is because all profitable sectors of the public sector have been privatized, while the necessary but cost-intensive ones continue to be financed by taxpayers. It is the classic model of U.S. capitalism, whose goal is to help individuals amass astronomical wealth.

Please don’t get me wrong: I believe that democratically organized capitalism can work. However, it urgently needs regulation, as otherwise its inherent logic inevitably leads to monopolies.

Unfortunately, U.S.-style capitalism has prevailed, a system that allows for nothing but cutthroat logic.

Sadly, this is also the case in my home country, even though for a long time we had a fairly good, reasonably fair system with the so-called “social market economy” (Walter Eucken and such).

Unfortunately, the concentrated capital amassed in the U.S. has long since found its way here as well: supported by the long-discredited theories of economists like John Maynard Keynes and especially Milton Friedman, whose wreched ideas have now been translated into what is called “trickle-down economics.”

The idea behind this—which, in fact, has demonstrably never even in the slightest corresponded to reality—is that it would be a good thing if there were a few extremely privileged people whose immeasurable wealth would trickle down to those below them.

Well, now there are a few of those very, very, very privileged people, very few of them, who have it all.

We are seeing the consequences of this today: the exploitation of entire nations at the expense of their citizens, the privatization of profitable public sectors, and the socialization of costs, the destruction of our planet even.

This has absolutely nothing to do with communism. China is demonstrating just how successful this can be when paired with asshole capitalism. I don’t like that but I’m inclined to prefer that over the US-Bullshit, since that also very much inhumane approach is not nearly as irresponsible as the US-System.I mean at least climate protection is a necessary goal for the Chinese—in this case, the public interest, or humanity itself, hasn’t been completely lost sight of. US capitalism on the other hand means certain doom for all of us. That much is certain, as demonstrated every day by the US regime and it’s awfully billionaires.

Oh yeah. We have been exporting the bs but it does go a bit each way. it was thatcher/reagan after all. Murdoch is from australia and there have been canadians and south africans. We are the epicenter. I actually like keynes if you are just talking about the economy. One thing is they like to only follow half his things. They love the tax cuts (which is never done in a progressive way) and spending but don’t like raising them in good times or paying down debt or creating rainy day funds. All economies should be back stopped and bolstered with social safety nets. Heck that should be the bulk of the spending under keynes philosphy but again they don’t like to do that part. Hire more and do more infratstructure in bad times while taking on debt and raising taxes progressvely to keep income disparity from getting beyond control in good times and using it to pay down debt and make rainy day funds. Its not so much to me they use bad theories as they like to pick and choose just the things they want and do a little lip service to explain it as good. In reality they are just causing massive imbalance which all goes back to wealth disparity.
