@rpg Ttrpg in the night-time econonmy: where can a group get a table in public at night?

My girlfriend is really slow at text roleplaying. It’s been getting worse, and today we got mad at her because we went two hours in her game without any plot happening during a session where everyone was in voice call.

Generic high-fantasy setting (d&d 5e if you want to use specific spells), what security or defences would mages use to secure the place where they keep all their magical stuff? I'm thinking decoys, reinforced and hidden location, guards (hired or summoned), locks (both magical and mundane), booby traps, and spells to discourage or confuse passing snoopers.

Other than it's sold in much smaller bottles that is. Is it chemically different? I'm not talking about the primers, I'm talking about the color paints.

I'm looking for feedback for generic opposition.

Potentially weird question: if you had to assign a #dnd alignment to the fear of spiders, what would you give it?

Does Shadowrun have a pigeon totem? I’m pretty sure that 4th don’t have one but I don’t know for the other edition.

I was watching some RPG YouTube, and of course there was talk about Monsters. And with the recent OMG CONTROVERSY with the newest Monster Manual, I got to thinking about something that is more inherent in D&D and in fantasy games in general, why so many monsters? I've played various other games, and read many books, watched many movies, but it seems that fantasy games, with D&D leading the charge, seem to have more monsters than any other medium in the genre, or other genre's in particular. So yeah, why are there so many monsters?

This is a continuation of my previous post, in spirit. I've been hammering out some rules for a skill-based dungeon-crawling game with five classes, one of which is the Ranger which is meant to be the overland travel specialist. That's a pretty narrow niche, so I've been trying to flesh them out by making them really, really good at mysteries. Here's what I've come up with so far:

My RPG group and I (mostly the latter) have spent the past few months working on a setting-generic RPG system. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! I'm quite proud of it as I haven't really seen very many dice systems like this. The system has character specialization (some are better at things than others) without any modifiers or math, just comparison!

I've been reading through some of the books recently and I realized I haven't seen anything about robot characters. I don't remember any in Cyberpunk 2077 either. Is there any established lore for androids?

Was considering to get a grid mat, large- at least A2 or so - of those you can write and erase. After searching online I found few options, and they're a bit pricey.

A few weeks ago I have found a very nice jam on itch.io called Road Trip Game Jam 2025 which was really inspiring and chill. At the time there were already a lot of really good little video games. I decided to hop on and try to submit something physical instead and many coffees later my solo TTRPG Focus on the Road was born.

I want to start a stream with some of my friends and other players trying to play these games. So I wanted to get a list of them before starting the stream. And they don’t even have to be good.

Saw a discussion on reddit today and thought it might be interesting. Name the system, media influences, and basic plot ideas. Mine is: Over The Edge, Film Noir: Four friends in 1935 are involved in a plane crash in the desert and end up in Al Amarja. Stuck without papers or passports, the group is forced to take piece work from the criminal element to survive. A cross between The Maltese Falcon, Naked Lunch, The Lost Weekend, and Sullivan's Travels.

Was wondering about this and how it might not be the same as ones first system played. (let's not count general dice or battle maps etc. this time)

Do you have a favorite system to run each genre? And if so, what do you like about them?

Many of us, have read GM-sections in RPG, RPG blogs, forum discussions, and sometimes books about the storytelling art.

As the title says. I eventually want to run an impostor scenario/murder mystery in my World of Darkness game at some point, and would like some pointers.

Perhaps obvious to everyone else, but I've hit upon a little trick for better coordinating game time. Instead of announcing "Game will be at 1 o'clock" I've been doing something like "Doors open at Noon, Game starts at 1." This way, the people that want to hang out, level their characters, decide what they like on their pizza, etc all show up at noon, and the people that are running late or decide to come at 1 arrive with the expectation that they're going to walk in the door and immediately start playing. It also provides a natural transition point from the arriving/hanging out mode to game time, which otherwise makes me feel kind of uncomfortably teacher-y, calling the whole class together and whatnot. Try it out, maybe it will help you too.

As much for myself as for anyone else, I'm keeping a game design blog for my project Crime Drama. While I've done this before, this is the first time I'm also posting it publicly. In the past, it was really nice for me to be able to review ideas and concepts weeks later. But also, if I'm really lucky, this scribbling might help someone else in the future. I've not been playing with my online gaming group for a few months, but when I was, I was playing a sentient gelatinous cube, who's just the happiest and friendliest thing ever. Last night I was able to rejoin, and we managed to pull off a great surprise. The PCs were led into a trap, and suddenly all sorts of oozes and jellies started appearing. The DM did a great description of an ominous, looming gelatinous cube approaching, and one side started to form into a face... Which oozed into a mouth and said.... Which is when I popped into the call and laid on the familiar happy, friendly voice and said a hearty hello and nice to see everyone again! Perfect timing, great build-up, everyone loved it. Such a great theatrical moment.

Even with all its flaws, I love running people through Tomb of Horrors.

So, I spend what is objectively too much time on Kickstarter. Every couple of days, I buzz the site, primarily looking for my next fix of bestiaries for my Pathfinder 2e table (I don't know what it is about physically bound monster stat blocks on glossy paper, but I apparently need that shit hooked directly up to my veins).
