And shelter workers, addictions counselors, legal aid staff, and countless other frontline community workers are turning to food banks themselves.

TORONTO — Ontario is proposing to consolidate its 36 conservation authorities into seven, a move the environment minister insists will improve services and result in no job losses.
“There’s had to have been a lot of ad hoc arrangements being made by local managers and directors, because they just don’t have the space to accommodate people,” he said. “So, things are not going exactly to plan.”
According to explanatory documents provided to reporters, potential changes could give landlords more “flexibility” to control who occupies their units and for how long, allowing them to “adjust tenancy arrangements based on market conditions, personal needs, or business strategies.”
