Explanation: In the mid-19th century AD, many Irish immigrants, fleeing poor conditions in British-controlled Ireland, came to the USA. During the US Civil War (1861-1865), Irish-dominated units established a reputation for bravery in combat, and were one of the largest immigrant groups to participate in the victory of the Union over the pro-slavery South.
