There is a new Star Trek 60th anniversary opening, which starts with the TOS Enterprise going into warp and then transforming into each subsequent series’ hero ships, from the refit to Enterprise*-D, *Defiant*, *Voyage*, NX-01, *Discovery*, the SNW *Enterprise and finally the USS Athena. The font used in the series captions is the one first seen in TMP.
For ships operating within range of a starbase, I’ve assumed there are facilities on the base to generate antimatter with which to refuel the starships. This is reinforced by the fact that we can make antimatter today in particle accelerators (though it’s currently the most expensive substance on Earth). Given a few centuries of technological advancement, it stands to reason it could be produced en masse.
The story on the tapes jumps ahead to five years after McGivers’ death, around 2273. The exile started in late 2267, 4 months pass bringing us into 2268, McGivers becomes pregnant, dies, Kali is born late 2268, five years later brings us to 2273.
Lear’s senior thesis was an examination of the Federation ban on genetic engineering and the blurred lines when it comes to Augmentation, using the expression “God is in the grey areas,” a variation on the expression “God is in the details.” The phrase is attributed to various people, including Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Gustave Flaubert, and is usually taken to mean that when attention is given to details big rewards can be derived. A related expression is “the Devil is in the details”, meaning that while things may seem simple on the surface, an examination of the details will reveal complications. It’s more likely that Lear means the latter rather than the former.
If Beverly had sedated Jean Luc during Sarek, or if a meld were initiated on an already unconscious person? Is this ever touched on in universe or extended universe?
The title may be a reference to the Aristotelian concept of the common good, although that has been used to justify utilitarian positions, where the correct decision is deemed to be one that benefits the greatest number of members of a given community. Of course, that means that the minority may bear the brunt of the disadvantages.
Sulu dates the scans made by Enterprise of the Ceti Alpha system as Stardate 3143.1. TOS: “Space Seed”, according to the logs, takes place between Stardate 3141.9 and 3143.3. The latter log is apparently recorded just before the hearing where Kirk decides Khan’s (and McGivers’) fate. This is consistent with Kirk already having decided to offer Khan exile before the hearing commences.
The title refers to Khan and McGivers’ discussion about the importance of memorialising the dead, which he describes as magical thinking - the state of mind that connects seemingly unrelated events or phenomena, usually with supernatural causes. In psychiatric terms, it is thinking that one’s inner beliefs and thoughts can influence external events.
I really love the Federation starship design lineage, and love seeing how it all connects across the centuries of Trek history. This includes designs that at first may not seem copacetic with the rest, like the Starfleet vessels in Discovery. This is my attempt at a partly-speculative, mostly-canon history of human/Starfleet starship design.
The tape Lear is listening to is from Day 29 of the exile. Lear mentions that the stardate is unknown. While this may harken back to the TOS Writer’s Guide where (to let writers off the hook for not being consistent with stardates from episode to episode) they say that stardates depend on a variety of factors, including the velocity of the object and its positioning within the galaxy, surely the position of Ceti Alpha V would be known? Unless Lear is just being lazy and not wanting to calculate it.
In 1976, the American comedy series M*A*S*H, set in the fictional 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, during the Korean War, produced “The Interview”, an in-universe documentary about the characters. Breaking the sitcom format, it was aired in black and white as the last episode of Season 4, consisting mostly of improvised in-character interviews.
Ensign Gamble identifies himself as a “junior medical officer”, not a nurse, but the two may be equivalent. The stardate is 2184.4, and it has been six months since he was assigned to Enterprise. Since Gamble came on board to sub for Chapel while she was away on her three-month fellowship with Korby, this places the episode six months after SNW: “Hegemony, Part 2” or three months after SNW: “Wedding Bell Blues”.
The title alludes to old time radio plays, and modern reproductions such as the “Thrilling Adventure Hour”, which ran as a podcast and staged performances in Los Angeles from 2005 to 2015. It is also an episode where the cast play different characters, like SNW: “The Elysian Kingdom”.
Given the plot, the title probably alludes to the Korean zombie movie “Train to Busan”. Also, actor Ken Foree played Peter Washington, the lead character in 1978’s Dawn of the Dead.
The title is named after the eponymous 1966 Laura Nyro song which was more famously covered by The 5th Dimension in 1969. It has lent its name to various other media, including a movie, an episode of *Gilmore Girls*, as well as an episode of *Cheers*. It’s sung from the point of view of a woman wanting her boyfriend to marry her.
We discovered that the Gorn used light for ship-to-ship communications in SNW: “Memento Mori”, and in that episode they used it to fool one Gorn ship into firing on another.

In “The Ultimate Computer”, the duotronic M-5 computer was deemed a failure which sent its creator Richard Daystrom into a nervous breakdown. Not only did Daystrom experience psychological distress (probably the most polite way to describe it), but was responsible for a machine that killed upwards of 53 people.
In LD S3 E8 "Crisis Point: Paradoxus", the holographic version of Dr. T'Ana was able to recognize they were in late 20th century Earth, seemingly by a single sniff.
How might SNW explain the physiology of the Klingons that have ridged foreheads versus the smooth foreheads that come from the failed augment experiment in ENT? A refresher: during the run of ENT, Klingons attempted to replicate the experiment of Human Augments. It ends up failing, which results in the physiology of the population changing, thus giving a in-universe explanation for why the makeup in TOS varies from how they appear TMP and onward.

So, this may be a frequently discussed topic, and I'm sorry if so. But I was watching S1 of SNW and there was a scene where an early "shields up" saved the ship from serious damage. And now that I think of it, I just can't come up with a good reason why shields aren't up all the time, with a few obvious caveats.
In ENT episode “Divergence” parts go flying off the ship during warp 5. What would happen to something at that speed without the protection of the field? Would it stay in high speed motion until interacted upon by something else (meteoroids/dust/gravitational fields)? Or would it disintegrate under this kind of speed?
Did Syrran’s teachings change the accepted spiritual and philosophical ideology of mainstream Vulcan society? ENT had the unique position of being a prequel to TOS. It at first presented mind-melds as a deviant act that was socially unacceptable. Moving into the 23rd century of TOS and the movies (I’m going on recall right now), the deviance seemed to have gone away. However the dangers of mind-melds held true even by the time of VOY. When ENT reached the three parter of “The Forge”, “Awakening” and “Kir’Shara”, the story specifically focused on katras.
Let's say we have a certain Trill symbiont with a host. What would happen if the symbiont was duplicated under the condition that:
- The host and symbiont were transporter cloned. (2 Jadzia Daxs)
- A person from an alternate timeline with the same symbiont ends up permanently marooned in the prime timeline. (Larry Dax from a timeline where Curzon didn't reinstate Jadzia coexisting with prime Jadzia)
- A past host comes back from the dead with a version of the symbiont a la Spock or Shaxs, or even something similar to Doctor Who's concept of an extraction chamber (Jadzia got bored in Sto'Vo'Kor and decided to climb the Black Mountain, meaning her and Ezri exist simultaneously)
I have an odd question that will probably never be answered now unless they decide to bring this species to other Trek shows: why are members of Merp’s species called “Big Merp”, “Sleepy Merp”, or just “Merp”?
The Last Federation is an obscure game made by Arcen, the makers of AI War. I haven't played this game yet, though I intend to try it at some point but I think the premise just absolutely SCREAMS Star Trek to me and I think if the people who own the Star Trek IP were smart they would go to Arcen and offer them a reasonable development budget to make a more polished spiritual successor to The Last Federation in the Star Trek universe and have basically a guaranteed cult hit created by a studio with a known record of creating games that are interested in mechanical nuance in an oddly similar way to the way Star Trek is interested in narrative nuance to storytelling and perspectives. *(I mean have you played Tidalis?, "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Variations" is the whole shtick of that game's approach to the match-three genre!!!)*
The title plays off *Star Trek: The Next Generation*, which succeeded TOS in 1987 - the last time that label was used being in PIC Season 3’s opener, “The Next Generation”, with its finale, “The Last Generation”, evoking that as well. Of course, by episode’s end, we see the aptness of the title as a torch is passed for a new frontier.
The title, an inversion of the series’ name, indicates the focus in this episode on the bridge crew. It is the flip side of and a play on TNG: “Lower Decks”, an episode focused on the lower deckers when the series is mainly about the bridge crew.
The title refers to the time dilation effect on Dilmer III, and is a pun on either fully dilated pupils in drug use or fully dilated cervixes in labor, or both.
When the LD SB80 episode mentioned Matt and Kimolu were infected on an away mission, it reignited some thoughts/questions about how the lives of Cetacean officers in an era of Trek where whales are beginning to become more common as crew members.
The title alludes to the Robert Burns’ 1785 poem *To A Mouse* (“The best laid schemes of o’mice and men / Gang aft agley”), which was used as the title to John Steinbeck’s 1937 Novella *Of Mice and Men*. It also plays on the association of *angels*, messengers of God, with the “typo that is not a typo” *angles*, referring to the geometric shapes of the Orbs and Cubes. Additionally, “Of Gods and Men” is an entry in the fan film series *Star Trek Continues* and VOY: “Heroes and Demons” dealt with photonic life forms.
The title is the same as the famous two-part TNG episode that brought Leonard Nimoy as Spock back to our screens and possibly an allusion to bringing several parts of *Star Trek* together. It is being released on the 30th Anniversary of *Star Trek: Generations*.
The title refers to the titular starbase which is considered the worst posting in Starfleet (LD: “Terminal Provocations”). Mariner herself was posted there after the events of LD: “Trusted Sources”, although she resigned her commission soon after. It was recently mentioned in the season opener LD: “Dos Cerritos”, when it was said that the parallel universe Carol Freeman had been posted there, allowing parallel Mariner to take over *Cerritos*’s captaincy.
After rewatching DS9: “Defiant”, I had a thought; to prevent transporter clones from impersonating each other, could Starfleet require, as a part of duty, that transporter clones receive slight genomic resequencing that changes no major traits but allows DNA scanners to distinguish them?
The title of the episode is a play on the 2011 film (and its sequel) *The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel*, about a group of retirees who purchase a hotel in India. Nanites are of course microsopic nanotechnological robots which were first introduced into the *Star Trek* universe in the TNG episode "Evolution", although chronologically they have existed as far back as DIS: "Perpetual Infinity".
The title is Spanish for “Two Little Hills”, and aside from a literal description of the episode’s plot, reminded me of the song “Dos Oruguitas” (Two Butterflies) from the movie *Encanto*. A similar title was LD: "wej Duj", Klingon for "Three Ships".
I think the Vau N’Akat seen in Prodigy have a lot of “biological and technological distinctiveness” to be added to the collective’s own. My question is whether or not the Borg could take advantage of the Vau N’Akat’s abilities, and whether they’d be all that helpful.
