multi-blockchain ‘virtual town hall of engagement opportunities’
Wow, this single phrase managed to make me puke a bit inside my mouth three times - might be a new record...
“Those of us in Web3 gaming are well aware that things aren’t working, but few seem to want to buck the status quo trend because the road less traveled isn’t for the feint at heart; it’s for pioneers and those who dare to defy,” Smart concludes. “And so, here I am, once again at the cusp of one of my greatest challenges, and what I believe to be my last hoorah, if you will.”
Derek smart, humble as always...
Those of us in Web3 gaming are well aware that things aren’t working
You can stop there. That's because so-called "web3 gaming" solves a problem that only exists in the mind of the dozen vocal idiots that want it to happen. And that problem is mostly "I don't really like video games, but I would play if that game was just about thinly veiled real money transactions instead".
Remember that we are not players in Web3 games. We are mobs to be farmed.
"Web3 Gaming" is gaming played by speculators and investors.
The products they create are disposable tools used to manipulate and farm regular gamers for cash.
Jesus Christ, he's still alive?! I haven't heard that name in years.
For those not blessed with the knowledge of our divine Lord and saviour Derek Smart, God's gift to fame designers, oh boy, grab your popcorn, this is going to be good.
And by "good" I mean that whatever Derek has come up with will manage to be the most objectively terrible version of that thing possible, and he will aggressively defend it as the greatest thing that has ever happened in the history of everything, ever.
Ironic surname apparently

Also, how in hell did I even remember that after all these years...
I remember seeing this idiot all over the Steam forums back in the day. I wouldn't trust anything he makes even if it wasn't blockchain related. His games suck, and he himself is a huge, arrogant asshole.
Didnt he fuck a vending machine once. (That is rhetorical as I know the answer already.)
Note: the slop in the article preview is Derek smart’s pfp, as he has waded into the comments section. I will not post highlights
The comment section seems to be 50% that dude by word count. He must be a perfectly healthy amount online.
Yeah thats Derek allright, the man has a bit of a reputation for being argumentative and opinionated. And well with his extensive resume ( he made Battlecruiser 3000AD in 96) he has the right to speak on things, and we should be silent, listen and be in awe of the wisdom he bestows upon us. A living Prometheus, slowly back away, do not make eye contact or he will start a flamewar.
I read it as "Derek Smalls" at first and only now I remembered he was the bassist of Spinal Tap.
That guy owes me $20!
I still have the CD somewhere!
(It was interesting tbh)
It looked neat! Alas, it refused to run for more than 15 minutes at a time on ye olde Compaq lol
Mass Effect was really a spiritual successor in some ways I feel.
Dude where have you been these last 3 years.
The comment and response are much better in full

Well I’ll be.
There are anti-blockchain people in the comments. I post an image showing web3 and NFT ads running right here on the site…and it gets deleted. Oh well.
That’s all folks. Until next time.
Response from Bree Royce (staff) 1 day ago
I already replied to you, and I told you how advertising works and how our readers help us by reporting these ads so we can block them when they sneak through Google by misleadingly flagging themselves to mask what they are. And then I got my tech to block the ad once I found it. And then I deleted your post for being off-topic since our ads have nothing to do with this news article. But perhaps I should have left it: The fact that blockchain hucksters deliberately lie and mislabel their ads to sneak through Google’s filters because legitimate gamers and respectable websites don’t want anything to do with them should tell everyone all they need to know about this tech.
Also it's incredibly amusing the guy's profile picture is the only one that doesn't load on the entire site, I don't even know why that is but thank god I don't have to look at that artistic abortion.
Being very mad about starcitizen.
He gave up on Scam Citizen ~5 years ago.
He has mostly been involved in ApeCoin/ApeChain which is a phase 2 scam of that monkey JPEG scheme.
He got suspended from their forum for arguing against some insiders who were scamming the marks.
Sorry, I have not kept up with the guy, and that is why I made the silly joke. Thanks for pointing out what actually happened. And hey, at least star citizen is still trying to chug along (despite my own reservations. feels weird to agree with Smart), so those non-nft pictures of spaceships will prob outlive the nfts.
what
That's like reading the marketing page for some cloud tool that your manager will surely pester you about on the next daily. "Hey, I think we should use Sporgle. They seamlessly integrate and abstract all technologies in a virtual town hall of engagement opportunities." 1
That's what I've been doing and I didn't need you to help with that so I'll just carry on I think.
1 Only that was back in 2020. Now they've rebranded to Sporgle.ai. The marketing page is exactly the same only there's "with the power of AI" added at the end.

It even works with Proton on Linux... absolutely amazing how a 20-year-old game is able to simulate today's KDE 6. The man truly is a visionary ahead of his time.
