So many authors are still waiting for their stories to be adapted. Netflix: “Let’s do another Pride and Prejudice adaptation” 😳 Like… we already have two perfect versions.
I honestly can’t imagine a better Lizzy than Keira Knightley 🥲

Those authors are waiting for a movie adaptation not a streaming platforms a 2nd screen adaptation where the characters exposition dump everything that's happening in real time.
Guh gotta keep milking it don't they. My local theater is rearranging Knightley's version and I'm going to that, no interest in seeing a remake on Netflix.
Different adaptations appeal to different audiences and people go to watch them. They offer different interpretations and takes on the book.
Like to me the Kiera Kinghtley version is a crappy Americanised take on the story that loses the satire and wit in the book and instead focuses on amping up the romance. But I know lots of people like it.
My favourite version is the 1997 BBC tv series but even that is flawed as Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet doesnt really capture the character. She is too serious and humourless, and Alison Stedmen as Mrs Bennet is too over the top and cartoonish.
There is plenty of space for another adaptation, and new writers and directors and a new cast of actors can give their interpretation on the book plus introduce it to a new generation of people who may be first exposed to Jane Austen via a new TV series.
Anything that gets more people to read and appreciate the works of Jane Austen is worthwhile in my opinion.
This is stupid. Netflix is in it for the money, not for the art. They are acting accordingly.
Totally agree here — it’s such a shame, because Netflix actually has the power to invest in fresh, exciting voices and stories.
And okay, maybe if they were offering some “new vision” of the adaptation… but no. They literally said they want to “faithfully recreate the original story.”
I mean… Austen herself doesn’t exactly need more royalties at this point 😅
And neither she nor her estate will be getting any, which is at least part of the point.
I want to see the black company adapted even as an rts/xcom game
lol, I was going to say “I thought I heard years ago or something that Eliza dushkus production company picked up the rights to the adaptation” but then checked and that was around 7 years ago, so I don’t think it’s moving forward
Edit: Myth: the fallen lords and Myth 2: soulblighter are heavily inspired by the black company, though dated at this point
Jennifer Ehle would like to have a word with you.
