The Fediverse is Quiet — Let's Fix That!

There are a number of “hard problems” facing ActivityPub development today. One of which is the oft-repeated refrain that “the fediverse is quiet”. This is most often experienced when any given conversation might not be seen as the entire conversation. Julian explains why this is, and what the Forums and Threaded Discussions task for is planning in order to address this one “hard problem”.

@julian Seems that Lemmy side is far more active? It's strange that there are feeds on the main page with about 300 comments, while in Mastodon it's hard to find a post with a single comment

@soc33drag@mastodon.communick.com As someone who never "got" twitter-like social media and that has been quite active on Lemmy for a long time by now - my guess is that the whole issue of missing context fundamentally does not exist in the same way, due to the way comment threads on Lemmy are independent of any mentions and user-user interactions. If I understand the system correctly, I think only content from actively defederated instances remains invisible on Lemmy, and you always get all the comments whenever you view a post.

I am, however, also quite tired atm, so it's not impossible I missed or misunderstood something, somewhere.
