Better archive the past before enshitification rears its ugly head.

Found this project recently and thanks to a friend i know its very digital-noob safe.

This sounds amazing. Any chance it runs on Linux?

I havent tried to install myself but with wine I can’t see a reason why not.

Might have to tinker a little as there is no specific guide for it; Heroic launcher has a way to run an installer before allowing you to pick the launch executable.

I have gotten sims 1 and 4 working on my system in a similar way.

Let me guess, available on Steam for $40, requires you to be logged in to the EA launcher, still a 32-bit app, won’t work on any newer MacOS.

and all that established dlc you may have spent several hundred (thousand or more, even) dollars on..

unusable and worthless, needs to be repurchased.

Damn, this means they'll no longer be abandonware

Ooh, my username checks out 😂

I've had pirated copies on every pc I've owned for a couple of decades, "long gone" lmao

Fuck EA, they ain't seeing a penny from me, and I definitely won't be engaging in any "ports" that probably exist to scrape my data and charge me more money lol

Does Windows not run the originals anymore? My original copy of the Sims 2 works perfectly fine in Wine so it's not like it depends on some weird online service or something

I think Sims 1 was physical only.

As a digital product EA halted distribution of the Sims 2 with very little notice:

On July 16, 2014, Electronic Arts announced the end of support for The Sims 2. As a response, The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection was released at the same time as a limited time offer. The game became available for free download from Origin exclusively following an announcement by EA that they would no longer be supporting the game. This offer ended at 10:00 PDT July 31, 2014.

Oddly it looks like Mac got a version via another distributor not long after ?!

I mean yeah but why would anyone want to pay more for a new digital copy of a game instead of just buying a used physical copy? I mean I guess maybe if you didn't have an optical drive, but I bet a usb optical drive and an original copy would be cheaper than the new digital version

They brought Sims 3 into the 64 bit world, but only for Mac for some ungodly reason

Long gone? I still have my original discs!

While I'm a little skeptical of EA when it comes to rereleases of classic games like this, at least these games won't be abandonware anymore.

They never left PC, PC left them.

Recently had the urge to play some Sims. I wasn't going to 1000+ euros. First game in a decade I pirated.

EA will mess up the “remaster” I am sure.

Sorry, criticizing the releases costs $14.99

Mentioning the releases costs USD1.99

They're not gone though? My wife plays Sims 2 all the time.

They're no longer available for sale.

The Sims 2 has always been on the Mac App Store under Aspyr.

It still gets random updates to account for system-level changes.

If you want The Sims 3, 2, 1 complete you can get by *cough...cough...* Torrent created by *cough...cough...* MR.DJ

I loved original The Sims and lost a lot of time to it. However, I was frustrated that I couldn't match the time like in real life.

Did anyone manage to get people to work before 10am!? The Sims took ages to get ready! 😂

Was there an alarm clock in the first game? There was in TS2, and it's a bit of a lifesaver (except when they went to sleep dead late and then refused to go to work)

I just started playing the original game two weeks ago or so and time management is pretty much my main complaint right now. It feels a little too close to (or even more punishing than) real life, where there's barely any time to keep up with my character's needs after coming back from work.
It can be done though - I'm slowly getting used to how things work again and my sim has been leaving in a slightly better mood then before. Just need to get into a proper Sims mindset, I guess.

there's barely any time to keep up with my character's needs after coming back from work.

Damn, I guess I'm a Sim

That's the one thing that frustrates me the most about these games, too. Minutes fly by like seconds, but the Sims move in realtime! There's *never* enough time to actually *do* anything in the game! So I keep my Sims unemployed and just cheat.

Been playing The Sims since 2001; in all those years I have *never* seen anyone release a timescale mod for any of the games. So when *do* play, most of my time is spent in Build/Buy mode.

They move in realtime, but they finish a meal in 10 seconds. Bathroom breaks and baths also take ~10 seconds. Not to mention that clothes changing is a single spinning jump. Wish it was that easy in real life
