Add a favourites to communities and a filter to only show articles from the favourites. Some communities are more important than others and the notification button for new posts in those communities feels out of place.
If the "User-created topics" feature existed then the utility of having a specific hard-coded name for your favorites is dramatically lessened.
Yes, this seems like a subset of "User-created topics (multi-reddits)"
