Jaw too big! 😠

"Unwoked" Joel is just Liam Hemsworth.

There's no forcing. I actually didn't look in the mirror my first playthrough and I stand by that choice

Wait a minute, he looks different if you don't look in the mirror in his apartment? I think it's time I replay this game...

Not different, it's just fuzzy and you can't make out the face, I did the same thing in one of my playthroughs

Original portrait:

Bloated ruin of a cop.

After looking at the mirror (don't):

Guillaume le Million he ain't, Expression or not.

Shaved:

Now you're just looking like a pervert, Harry.

If you manage to get rid of the Expression:

Now, this might actually look like a police detective (after he's been beaten by the world for decades, drowned himself in enough drugs and alcohol to mummify a weaker man, and stuck his head in raw concentrated pale).

Shaved, no Expression:

I'm actually getting some early Sam Vimes / Harry Callahan vibes here. There might be hope for this version of Harrier Du Bois.

For some reason you also get a custom portrait if you go fascist enough:

Revachol forever... Harry, not so much.

And shaved fascist:

ACAB (except Innocence Kim β€œKimball” Kitsuragi).

I don't know why but the blurry portrait creeps me tf out

Not sure if thats a parody of Gamers complaining about "ugly" women or if they are serious and also stupid on the same level

Pretty sure that’s a parody, in response to where folks edit women in the same manner, like this shit: https://knowyourmeme.com/editorials/guides/what-is-the-hire-fans-lol-meme-the-viral-dei-copypasta-being-used-to-criticize-the-witcher-4-haters-explained

Original Chuddish: "Hire fans lol"

Translated to English: "I've never once seen a real woman from up close (they always run away and call me a freak)"

Am I alone in finding the "fan" image for Ciri even more off-putting than the original one, even if Ciri was doing something where attractiveness was relevant? People who wear that much makeup end up in the uncanny valley for me.

She looks weird and vacant, like a literal sex doll. But I suppose that's what they want

I'm pretty sure it's a parody, but it'd be hilariously unhinged if it became real.

So poes law is alive and well.

I actually thought this kind of degenerate nonsense was someone joking but today I saw a mod for Baldur's Gate 3 to make Gortash "handsome," so I'm obviously out of touch.

Gortash actually *is* supposed to be younger and more attractive, according to the narrator at several points.

This is my favorite internet gag lately.

In my game I got him to stop grinning...

Shaven, Expression-free Harry gives me some early Sam VimesΒΉ, (and by extension Harry CallahanΒ²) vibes:

Hang in there, Harry.

There might actually be a good cop under all that pain and damage.

1 β€” From Sir pTerry Pratchett's Discworld books.
2 β€” From the Dirty Harry film series.

OG joel looks better. Only reason the new guy at the top looks better is because hes vaguely reminiscent of luigi

That's came to my mind too. Seems like I'm not the only one who noticed it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with that thought!

i still haven’t finished this game because i don’t want it to be over. even though i haven’t played it in months, i can take comfort in knowing im not truly done with it

There's more to see if you go through it as a different "character"

my problem goes deeper than you might initially expect. i have made many many characters for this game. however, none of them have finished it

I sympathise with you here, and I won't urge you to finish it (because I know it's not that simple), but I do hope that you are able to some day, because the ending of the game is one of the things that is dear to my heart in the game (I am curious at what the furthest you've gotten in it is). It's not even that the ending is good β€” the reason I love it is because of how it hurts: it hurts because it means the game is finally over, and it also hurts because the characters in the game don't get the closure of an ending. Disco Elysium actually feels tremendously hopeful to me, but it's a weary, desperate kind of hope, because Revachol is sick and struggling; Martinaise, depressing shit hole that it is, reminds me of home β€” I say this with equal parts bitterness and affection. You would probably take away something different from the ending than I did, which is why I hope that you are able to experience it some day.

Un jour je serai de retour près de toi

Hearing the first three notes of Instrument Of Surrender is still enough to send me into a melancholic episode.

Have you ever thought about finishing them off at the same time?

I've seen some documentaries about this.

I still haven't finished this game because the variety of choices and behavior gives me paralyzing FOMO

I wish i took my time with my first playthrough more. I enjoyed it too much that i rushed through.

yeah i have been having that problem too. i kept making new characters and reloading saves to see what would happen. i know it ends up making the experience worse but i just can’t help myself. i need to know. i also need to have all the fun stat boosting items and then i find myself optimizing the fun out of the game.

You can replay it, you know.

I literally only finished the entire game recently because of that. I would go for 2 or 3 days then start over and do everything entirely differently. I have now pretty much seen every single way you can play through the game. Every success and failure, every cop-o-type, etc. This is how a narrative-driven RPG should be. Everything down to what you're wearing can change things dramatically.

What really got me hooked was playing with a super high Encyclopedia skill so you get pages and pages of world building exposition with almost every action or dialogue option you do. The world the game is set in is *gnarly!*

I only see a disco man, as handsome as Hjelmdallerman himself, doing THE EXPRESSION. I bet he is doing the fuck a lot.

Yes, Harry. It is an expression of pain

god, thanks to these meme, i hate all people equally again

Games are fantasy and I fully support whatever you like to see. Want to see skimpy women? Excellent! Want to see Giga Chad dudes? You go girl! Want to see beat down dirty protagonist? That's a-ok!

This whole fighting and shaming for fantasy role-play needs to stop.

I bet the people who do this aren't very attractive. So weird...

Mr. Cody?

Before and after Corn Cream. (order unknown)

A male protagonist should always look like he either just fucked a bear, or got fucked by a bear. The one on the left meets both of these criteria and is passable.

Hot Harry? 😨

Maybe I should drink less...

That's what I imagine RaphaΓ«l Ambrosius Cousteau looks like.

Wait, this isn't lemmy shiitpost?

The funny thing is that conventionally its the left one that was attractive. Todays standards for men are actually more traditionally feminine. I dont really care but its funny to find gaping holes in logic like this.

Todays standards for men are actually more traditionally feminine

**giggles in baroque and rococo**

Do you mean like men liking blue, instead of pink? As traditionally blue is a gentle colour, meant for girls, whereas pink is strong and vibrant, and meant for boys.

Unironically didn't like this game because I couldn't customise my character. Like ffs a skill check for a tie? Really?

Get up now, grab one from the dresser and tie a full Windsor, one try, no YouTube tutorials.

See why the skill check?

I tied one every day for my high school uniform.

You'd probably pass the check then. I wouldn't.

Good thing that skill check exists then I wouldn't want players to be able to complete mundane tasks without interrupting the flow of gameplay

Ok, but I'm pretty sure I won't die of a heart attack if I fail attempting to put on a tie, even if I am hungover and out of shape.

What the fuck are you talking about you can't customize your character?

You can customize your starting stats. You can customize your outfit. You can even customize your Police style by saying enough things about communism, or apologizing a lot.

Not enough, I expect the Dark Souls character creator to be in every game I play. If my character has a nose and it *doesn't* look like a fucking battleaxe - is the game even worth playing?

(Yes, it is. I love Disco Elysium, I just love making horrific monstrosities too.)

My first death in this game came from succumbing to a massive heart attack while trying to acquire/equip said tie.

Actually would've given me an aneurysm and caused me to die irl

Harry is someone that already exists and has relationships in the world, usually those sorts or RPGs don't let you customize much. It's like Geralt or Link. But you do get to develop your personality more through dialogue.

As for the tie skill check, the rest of the game is better about saving skill checks for more difficult tasks. It's just there at the start to reinforce how much of a mess your character is. You can come back later when the negative modifiers clear and it's easier.

Idk I'm still not convinced I would enjoy the experience if I sunk more time in. Everything I did was sooooo tedious and hard to do. I got to the point where I have to get a guy's body out of a tree and just could not do it failing multiple times using multiple methods entirely arbitrarily. Like why set up some sort of crime I need to solve if I am going to not just hindered, but entirely blocked from taking the most basic of steps.

Fr I have never felt less agency while playing a video game. Let me do things damnit!

Insert joke about communist developers taking away muh freedum
