Hey ma, they're putting out the 'hottest on record' headline again! What're we up to now, 11 years in a row?
I wonder where they are taking this information from. This seems to be the cited European Union's climate change monitoring service, but there is no such news item from July 8.
I can definitely say that this June was much colder than usual here in the north of Spain Spain. Lots of rain and low temperatures, it seems that summer is starting 1-2 months later than usual (similar to last year).
Every month since June 2023 – 13 months in a row – has ranked as the planet’s hottest since records began, compared with the corresponding month in previous years, the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said in a monthly bulletin.
From the second line of the article. Here's the monthly bulletin they're talking about.
Keep in mind that this is the global average temperature, there could be some places (like Northern Spain) that experienced lower temperatures.
It's definitely been awful in the Eastern US so I believe it. The heat index in my house has been over 100 F almost every day for most of the past month or so
Hottest year....so far....
Climate change is crazy and often the people who complain about it, are the people who don't really believe in it. This year so far, we gad like 5 or 6 summer days. The rest was just rain and pretty cold. I usually wear shorts pretty much all year long, but this summer so far is so odd. I'm not looking forward to the future
I don't think that headline will surprise anyone.
I have a prediction for another headline: "2025 could be world's hottest year as June breaks records".
The only way 2024 stays the hottest year on record is if civilization breaks down this year and no one keeps the record anymore.
Possibly not even then as we might already have caused a irreversible shift by melting the permafrost wich contained tons of Co2
We would have to go full nuclear winter for a few years.
No, I meant it will be the last year on record, cause no one is going to keep the weather stations running.
Ah... Well that makes sense but tbh, most weather stations are satellites and autonomous stations that run mostly without interactions, so it would take a few years for the recordings to stop completely.
Let's focus on the really important issue here, which is of course transgender people using bathrooms.
Alternatively, the coldest year for the rest of your life
No, we just left El Niño so there is s reasonable chance next year, maybe two years, are a little less warm. It gives the critics the chance to shout at the top of their lungs because we didn't break every record that year, warming is a hoax. To get walloped with a monster of a heatwave in three years of course.
Also the coldest for the next decades.
Man it’s so great how every year for like most of a decade this happens and we still have reams of dipshits all like “iT’s nOT SeTtLEd sCieNCe”
So great
🫠
Well, I'm not heating up the dirt myself. So they don't have to prove anything to me.... They gotta just deal with the temperature death limit. The critical "wet-bulb temperature" limit is generally considered to be 35°C (95°F) with 100% humidity. At 40C humans struggle and a little more and you'll not have to worry about them anymore 😉.
In the long run, nature heals itself 🌳
Perfect bad example... Dinosaurs. There are no more dinosaurs 🦕😔.
10,000 years later..
People. There are no more people. And the planet seems fine.
Dinos just had bad luck. We did this to ourselves.
Yes, every year will continue to be the new hottest year.
Probably not, there are some short cycles like El Niño that will see some temporary heating and cooling. But the trend will always be upwards.
I mean, the ocean temperature is unnaturally high, so I wouldn't get my hopes up. Maybe we'll get a few months that won't break records, but I wouldn't bet on it.
The predictions take that into account, no?
Until we reach peak and head into another ice age. We’ll have tens of thousands of years in cooler temps though.
Hottest year….so far!
Happens every year.
Other places must've been hot as hell as in the UK we actually had a slightly cooler June than normal compared to the average. The world climate is well and truly fucked then.
Western Europe is under the influence of La Niña making it cold. We're sitting here wondering where the summer went as crops refuse to grow properly because too cold and too wet while in other places people drop dead because of the heat.
Yeah my little part of the US has been below average the last couple of years too. It was hot this summer for one week.
It's the coldest year for the rest of your life!
Humanity extinction Speedrun any%. LET'S GOOOO!!!
Interesting choice to wear a black shirt for it, too.
HERE WE GOOOOO BOIS!
iPhone every year or a livable planet. We can't have both
Theres no flipping records being broken here, hottest June ! My arse..
The world is larger than just western Europe...
Are you saying recorded temperatures are being made up?
No, I'm saying that "here", it certainly wasn't the hottest June on record...
So which planet are you commenting from?
No he is talking about his own roughly 48km^2^ area.
Ignoring the fact that the earth is just slightly larger at 510,064,472 km^2^
Ahhh so its been the hottest June within someone else's 48km2 patch...got it, thanks 👍🏻
It says right there in the post title, "World's".
The GLOBAL average is hottest on record. As in, if you take ALL recorded temperatures EVERYWHERE and average them together to get the GLOBAL temperature, it's breaking records
Planet Denial.
To be fair, it looks like you're in Wales. The best you can hope for is "slightly less rainy".
