One good edge case in favor of Arch over Bazzite or even ChimeraOS, is if you run a GCN1 or GCN2 card in which you need to manually enable AMDGPU support in kernel parameters, which is easier to do in Arch because it doesn't lock the root partition by default where Bazzite and I assume ChimeraOS do.
Otoh, AFAIK Fedora in general has been enabling that by default for a while now, and if recent developments suggest anything, that kernel parameter workaround might not even be required for GCN1 and GCN2 anymore as that driver might finally be enabled by default for those older cards soon.
GCN3 and newer of course enables AMDGPU by default already.
I think Bazzite is good for the selected purpose and no change is required. You need an appliance and you got one.
@gbryant yeah bazzite is a decent choice for somethng like a gaming box
The magic of Bazzite is the ujust commands. One of the ujust commands works to install Davinci Resolve. So installation is just a matter of downloading the file and entering a single command. I've used this and can confirm it works! Nobara also has a simple installer built in.
@gbryant You were talking about Nvidia drivers; Nvidia has been the worst part, for me, in switching to Linux. I regret buying an Nvidia card and my next GPU will be something else.
@gbryant Fair that you don't play online games, but do realize they are very popular. My friends play Apex Legends and PUBG, so no matter how trash Windows 11 is, that's what they're gonna use, and that's the end of the matter. I'm afraid the anti-cheat problem significantly hinders the adoption of Linux.
Most people do not even play games at all, much less competitive multiplayer games, so I would disagree!
