In 1988, an English farmer stopped cultivating his entire 377-acre wheat farm; 35 years later, it became one of central England’s biggest refuges for scrub, woodland and rare wildlife (timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

Community iconnature@feddit.uk by
GreyShuck@feddit.uk

An English farmer who stopped intensive wheat farming in 1988 has unintentionally helped create one of central England’s largest young woodland nature reserves, reports the Guardian. Strawberry Hill, a 377-acre site near Knotting in Bedfordshire, has now been permanently protected after the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire (BCN) officially purchased the land. The purchase followed a public fundraising campaign that reached its £1.5 million target. For 35 years, the land was left largely untouched after landowner Hugh White stopped farming there in protest against government agricultural policies. Over time, the former fields naturally changed into a mix of hawthorn bushes, scrubland, grassland and young woodland. According to ecological surveys by the BCN Wildlife Trust, the site now provides important habitat for threatened birds. It is home to around half of all breeding nightingales recorded across Bedfordshire.

Ukraine takes aim at Russia’s economy and morale by attacking online retailer (apnews.com)

The attacks began on a July weekend and have continued for a month, stretching from Moscow and St. Petersburg, to cities in the south, and eastward to the Ural Mountains. The targets weren’t oil refineries, maritime hubs or arms plants hit by other Ukrainian strikes, but warehouses that bring the convenience of online shopping across the breadth of Russia.

As I write this I literally have a script ( https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite ) running deleting all posts and comments I made so I can delete my accounts and leave them with nothing. The last couple of days they have been prompting people to provide identification documents to access their accounts. This is going to start becoming more prevalent on platforms. I always hated the site but that’s crossed the line for me. So purpose of this post is just to give people a heads up while they still have access if they want to remove their data and / or delete the peice of shit from their life once and for all.

Electric Aviation Won't Kill Jet Fuel - But It Could Take the Best Routes First (oilprice.com)

Aviation is often assumed to be one of oil’s most secure markets — in 2026, airlines will burn roughly 104 billion gallons of fuel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) remains under 1% of use, and nearly all commercial aircraft still run on liquid hydrocarbons. But the article argues this view mirrors the mistake oil made with cars: focusing on the existing fleet rather than the technology now competing for new routes.
