This is my current setup, all contained within the crossbody bag on the left. I’ve had more or less the same stuff, in the same bag, for about three years before, but the zipper on the bag was breaking, so I replaced it. I decided that would be a good time to rethink what I’m carrying.

Sometimes I wonder if I ought to rename this gig “The CRKT Show.” Certainly it seems that a pattern emerges regarding a surprising number of their lineup. I couldn’t begin to guess why this is, but I’m down for it.

I’m still new to typewriters. Looking around, trying to figure out what I should get. I did (do?) have a very old Underwood in the attic, but want to get something else.

I’m pretty sure I made a dent in my blade. It will be the first time I’ll tried to sharpen it on a wet stone so I’m pretty stressed

Happy 4th of July to those who celebrate. This weekend’s carry is the Civivi Elementum button lock. Not to be confused with the later made Elementum II which also has a button lock, but has the original 3” blade. This has a 3.5” blade and the button lock is used for both opening and closing the knife. You cannot open it without using the button. I’m not sure why they designed it this way but the choice makes it very fidget friendly. (The Elementum II is a “normal” button lock with a flipper tab.)

…Where we came in?

I got this for $30 from a neighbor. It was missing a spacebar spring and needed a good cleaning but now it works! I’ve been using it for journaling for like three weeks now. Great fun

The Nitecore P27iX is a tactical flashlight that impresses with a well-designed user interface and four special “M515S” LEDs. The multi-stage tail buttons provide direct access to four brightness levels, while a sliding switch reliably protects the flashlight against accidental activation. Only the SET button on the head requires some getting used to. Also worth mentioning are the battery level indicators and the USB charging port with its metal flip cover.

As is tradition I am going to give you a bit of a story here. While I may not be as eloquent as Dual hopefully I can get half the charm.

Life is full of things that are special, but cruel reality ensures that you won’t realize it at the time. Like the fireflies dancing over the meadow at dusk leaving their trails of curves and loops in the air that last a just a second or two each, thousands of them, glimmers that form a whole that can only truly exist in memory.

This is another ad. Since the last time I mentioned this sort of thing it worked so well that you guys cleaned me out completely, let me see if that works again.

Found some lodge waffle iron paddles on Facebook marketplace recently. I don’t have a base… But a online buddy wanted them for a friend of his.

Transient, the knife

A little over a year ago I posted about this Dutch oven that I almost saved from my dad’s estate sale but he swiped it back from me after I cleaned it up (I was cleaning it for the sale, he didn’t know I was thinking about keeping it).

After trying a whole bunch of pocket notebooks, the Apica A7 has become my go-to.

Well, I had a whole post written up. Bunch of photos. Talked about YouTuber’s designing knives and then PieFed.World just decided “oh here’s an error, how about you lose all that work”

It is a Kansept Model 6 Left-Handed with liner lock.

I love it. It’s elegantly simple piece of electronics, while also being an amazing audiovisual spectacle. For the whole office.

Made a notch in the handle to make opening the blade easier, burned the handle, and gave the blade an artificial patina with lemon juice. It’s an old knife I don’t use much - just keep it in my bike backpack - but it’s great for carving and food prep thanks to the thin blade.

The Armytek Predator Pro Max lives up to its name: compared to its predecessor, it is brighter, has a longer runtime and more throw – all while maintaining nearly the same size. It comes with a new side button, which eliminates the need to loosen or tighten the head to adjust the brightness. Other features like the electronic tail switch and the convenient magnetic charging system are still included.

I’m generally not a knife whore since I basically carry my Sebenza everyday unless there are reasons not to like camping. I picked this up late this winter when I went looking for something with a reasonable blade length that was also light for the more stretchy lighter weight pants I’ve been wearing.

Found this nice cast iron teapot from a flea market. It’s enameled inside (of course) and it has a stainless steel tea sieve. Needs a bit of soda boiling to get rid of tea residue inside. I guess I should also check the enameling for lead (some of the old ones can have lead in them I think), though I’m pretty sure it’s safe. It doesn’t seem that old.
