In a podcast interview from late 2023, Palicki suggested that she would be unlikely to return as Cmdr. Kelly Grayson for a fourth season.

“No longer doing that,” the actress said about The Orville before noting that she didn’t know whether it would come back. Palicki explained that it was tough to make herself available for shooting, given the long production breaks: “It became an actual, real issue because there would be so much time in between seasons. Seth wanted to write everything himself, so it would just take so much time.” She added, “I did love so many things about it. I think it was the process that was hard.”

It’d be weird without Palicki in her role as Commander Kelly, but I’m sure Seth could find a way to write in a reason for a recast.

FWIW Palicki has had steady work since 2023, but I don’t see anything reoccurring listed on IMDB at the moment that would conflict with filming The Orville, or at the very least making a few appearances as a reoccurring character if not part of the main cast.

Plus the last season was filmed in 2021, released in 2022. The earliest this gets back on track is late 2026, realistically 2027 (and if I’m being honest, probably 2028). That’s plenty of time to adjust and schedule things.

Nice! Forgot how much I love this show

Right. It’s great. I’ma go watch it some right now, I can’t sleep.

Good news after Star Trek went to Kurtzmans anus.

Oh my god, please that would be so awesome, finally more star trek!

Just please don’t make a repeat of season 3, that was mostly empty CGI slop ala nu trek.

I liked a few of the episodes I saw, but it felt like it was made by people who’d never read any SF - only seen it on TV or movies.

The Orville is some of the best scifi of all time. The guy who made family guy also making this is shocking but I’m so glad for it. The man can’t give an inspiring speech to save his life and a lot of the character moments are pretty flat but that is all the critique I can give. The rest of the show is such a perfect balance of making high concept scifi grounded and real, making it weighty without being bleak or too glib, making it real to life without being preachy. Outstanding show.

it’s less shocking once you see how huge of a trek nerd MacFarlane was as a kid!

He actually had a couple cameo appearences in ST Enterprise. Not my fav ST incarnation, but I was happy to spot him.

FIVE. HUNDRED. SEASONS.

One of the best episodes!

For when you want new episodes of old-school Star Trek, this is the only source. More Rob Lowe episodes, please.

More TNG than TOS

In fairness, TNG is probably “old school” by now, just not “oldest school”. heh

More high budget sci Fi please

Best version of Star Trek since TNG.

This show proves you can still “shoot” a show properly. Not the scattershot “throw everything at the wall” technique of kids at film school seemingly running trek these days.

“The prolific producer confirmed that Hulu would be ready to move forward on the new season, but his own packed schedule has made it challenging to find time for him to shoot. “The 10 scripts are done,” MacFarlane continues. “I’m the problem. It’s [a matter of] when I can make that my year, with all the other stuff we have in the works. But we can hit the ground running when it happens.”.

STA copied the whole “artificial lifeforms cut off from humans sending envoy to see if humans will be friend” idea. Orville did it better.

I enjoy the Orville but let’s not get too uptight about where the sci-fi ideas come from. Especially since the Orville is literally Seth MacFarlane’s powdered TNG substitute.

It’s microwave reheated TNG.

It’s “I Can’t Believe It’s Not TNG”.

“All of the taste, none of the Berman!”

Minus the two funniest actors

The only person who is absolutely out is Adrianne Palicki (Commander Grayson). She walked away because of how long season 3 took to produce (COVID). Everyone else is up in the air.

Oh no, if Grayson is out then Mercer will have to have a story beyond “My ex-wife is my assistant manager… in space!”

Bortus and Isaac?

Entering the glory hole.

The Star Trek we wanted instead of Disco crap. Cant wait!

I know I’m in the minority but I strongly dislike this show its messages and themes are just half arsed they are less progressive and less interested in truly trying to present moral dilemma’s and messages then Trek was in the 90’s.

I think we are in the minority, mostly because this is an Orville community.

If you were in the minority it wouldn’t have been cancelled the first time lol

The thing with Orville is that there are are a lot of very online insecure men who all LARPed that it was amazing because they were upset with the Black Lady show.

It’s not a bad show it’s just hard to gauge the actual real world authentic audience reception.

If you were in the minority it wouldn’t have been cancelled the first time lol

Are you referring to The Orville? It has never been canceled.

The huge gaps between seasons 2 and 3 was caused by COVID, and this one seems to be about how expensive the last season was.

And, yes, coming into a community about a specific thing to say that you don’t like specific thing does put you in the minority (and in less tolerate communities would get you dogpiled or banned).

Dont forget the whole “moving from network television to streaming” thing.

Look, I watched the hell out of Discovery despite the terrible dialogue writing, because I liked the characters and many of the sci-fi ideas. I liked the first 2 seasons of the Orville more, because it gave me the idealistic progressivism I sometimes crave and rarely get on tv or in films.

aw that’s great bud happy for you

Given that all the episodes are the same, I’m not impressed.

care to elaborate? i thought there were a lot of rehashed ideas from star trek but told in a unique way.
