ICE has used Mobile Fortify to identify immigrants and citizens alike over 100,000 times, by one estimate. It wasn’t built to work like that—and only got approved after DHS abandoned its own privacy rules.

The inaccuracy is a feature - if you want to really terrorise a population, add a bit of randomness to your violence.

We’ve always known how flawed all these “facial recognition” stuff is at least partially on purpose.


They don’t care, false positives boost arrest numbers. That’s the whole reason they’re using it, more quantity, not quality.
