If you’re on a piefed instance, or are administrating one, make sure your instance is able to receive Fediverse Auth messages
Piefed defaulty rejects DMs from new actors, but this can be fixed in the admin interface by marking
@auth@auth.fediverse.eventsas a trusted actor
You can also test if your instance works by clicking on the emojis on the Canvas page ✨

Why? What? Context?
I guess I should’ve added what Canvas was to the original post I cross posted. Canvas is a collaborative pixel canvas that we run every year, and this was notice for piefed admins to make sure the
auth.fediverse.eventsinstance is marked as trusted in piefed. This is needed as fediverse-auth sends a DM to users to login (one time code), and with piefed’s default anti-spam, the piefed instance will silently not deliver the DM. Markingauth.fediverse.eventsas trusted allows the piefed instance to trust the actor’s reported created at time (bypassing the “prevent new users from sending DMs” restriction)Relevant links:
Oh, so this does not specifically concern my single user instance unless I decide to participate. :D
that is correct, if you do end up participating and run into this issue, this’ll be the post showing you how to fix it 😉
