My iPod is better than my phone: repair, new SSD, and managing songs with Linux

A new iPod has entered my life, and I’m excited to start using it with Rhythmbox. But first, I need to clean it up and install this awesome DosLab solid state drive and new Atomic Purple front panel.

I still listen to mp3 and flacs (younger folks who still know what that means think I'm crazy) so this is actually really cool. Might try it soon
I’ve never been able to replicate my music discovery and listening habits that I had with the iPod. I’d download entire albums and listen to them all the way through. Sometimes I’d listen to an album 5 times and it wouldn’t click. Then some random day I’d hear it again and I’d realize every song was genius. I loved loading that thing with new albums.
Now, with streaming I just kind of drift around from one song to the next. I find some good stuff, but my approach feels less systematic and I don’t really have a good grasp on which artist are which. Sometimes the recommendations just all sound the same and I don’t really get to go through all the songs in an album. It’s less about building a music collection that’s yours and more like listening to the radio.
This video is helpful. Thank you.
My iPod is still functional, so I'm not interested in updating it. However, the video was still helpful for the Rockbox recommendation. I'd love to be able to play .ogg files on my iPod. I'll try it soon.
this is so cool! I have an old iPod just like this one that's still in perfect condition. I wish I could trust myself to make upgrades to it like this 🤣 I bought a cheap standalone MP3 player last year for that distraction-free listening but it has issues seeing a lot of the files even though I obsessively edit metadata with MusicBrainz Picard.

love it!
I loved this. Thank you!
Yeh I’m shopping for a dedicated mp3 player… slowly working on just never having the phone with me. why bother. I won’t do digital shopping, I won’t pay via phone, no one calls, ‘friends’ doesn’t respond to me, guess I’m not interesting or they just don’t care… so what’s the point. downgrade the phone to Granny level services and just use mp3s. done
Do you ever call people?
no. well, I guess my mom but she’s a 3 minute walk. I could tell outside.
Maybe the calls need to start from you then and your friends will start calling yoi back?
