UNICEF warns that malnutrition in Gaza remains at catastrophic levels, with 9,300 children under five admitted for treatment in October and more than 8,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women, numbers far higher than earlier in the year.

šŸ‘‰ The number of malnourished children treated is five times higher than in February, underscoring how severe the crisis remains after the ceasefire as a result of limited aid access and low availability of nutritious food.

šŸ‘‰ While some fruits and vegetables are now available, families cannot afford them UNICEF says, and meat still costs around $20 per kilo according to a November UNICEF survey.

šŸ‘‰ Even after the ceasefire, malnutrition remains rampant, especially among mothers. UN officials say recovery among pregnant and breastfeeding women is slower than among children because mothers continue to give their therapeutic food to their children.
