Explanation: Many of those involved in the Nazi military in France during and after the D-Day landings were actually foreign conscripts - not Germans, but Czechs, Hungarians, Belgians, Belarusians, etc.
As Americans, we neither care about nor can tell the difference between furriners. Kraut PoWs is Kraut PoWs.
The French, on the other hand, were quite happy to re conscript these poor sods into the Foreign Legion on several occasions.

The fact that’s definitively a war crime is only a problem if you lose, after all!
For those in the know, it was a good easter egg, just a lot less colourful and fun than the ones the bunny leaves.
I mean, some Allied war criminals were prosecuted after the war. Just… not as many as should have been.
