Finally, hardware is powerful enough that even Gamefreak can make a decent looking 3d game!
In all seriousness though, it looks pretty nice. Looking forward to the return of diving. South-east Asia is an interesting setting for a new region. I have a feeling IGN isn’t going to like it though…
And its Not final. I’m Sure world building is mostly done. But I believe chars and Pomémon model will also bei polished.
I expected less tbh. I’m curious about further steps later in years.
“It’s not final” unfortunately means Gamefreak still have time to scale it down and make it look uglier. As they’ve done in the past.
Huh, so they’re actually going to wait a year. I honestly expected them to push a Pokemon game ASAP for the Switch 2, but I guess it’s better that they take their time than release a mess like Scarlet & Violet.
Legends Z-A was the title for the switch 2. I mean, Scarlet and Violet was clearly supposed to be the switch 2 title (its obvious they developed the game for that hardware) but they needed to rush it to get their one game a year quota.
What was wrong with scarlet and violet? I enjoyed them, but they were my first Pokemon game since the Gameboy SP.
Borderline broken on release, terrible framerate & graphics on Switch 1. Did you play them on Switch 2 by any chance?
Nope, I played it on the switch lite and didn’t have issues with framerate and graphics, but I didn’t buy it on release.
Why design routes when “open world”? PS2 ass graphics. Horrible frame rate and performance. Unnecessary number of shops with no life at all. Because “you can take the challenges in any order” none of them have any actual interest or difficulty. First main line pokemon game I ever DNF’d.
As someone who hasn’t played a pokemon game since Gen 3, what are they like these days? Have they totally jumped the shark?
Terrible. They are terrible today. The last game pair they put out was an absolute joke in every regard.
I recommend never giving them another penny.
Sounds good, I’ll continue to emulate Soul Silver and Emerald on my phone 😁
Oh, yes. And the shark has a N64 number of polygons, and they tried to copyright the term “jumping the shark”. But it’s okay, because there’s a horde of dumb people that will buy it anyway.
I’ve played every main-line and reboot pokemon game since they came out. I didn’t finish Scarlet and Violet, it was so bad, also didn’t finish Legends Arceus cause it was so lazy, and I’ve never played Legends Z-A. They’ve stopped putting in any amount of effort, so why should I bother to play them?
My wife is a true blue Pokemon fan. Finished every game to date including all the DLCs, remakes, and most of the spin-offs.
And even she couldn’t finish ZA. Which surprised me because she loved Arceus. The straw that broke the camel’s back was the fact that the game sets you up to expect 26 ranks to climb through, but then it just skips most of them. It was too lazy and disappointing for her to overlook.
It definitely depends on how much they incorporate improvements from Legends: Arceus Z-A (one of the side games). Gens 6 - 8 were all so easy that a popular way to play each of those is with a difficulty mod, if you are able.
Gen 9 tried to mix it up a bit, but as another user mentioned the performance on the Switch was so poor that it was hard to enjoy.
Legends: Arceus Z-A has introduced several quality of life features that could be game changing if they make it into Winds & Waves, but we shall see. This could be the most fun mainline gen, if they do it right, or they could fumble it again.
Edit: Looking back, both times I meant to say Z-A I said Arceus. Whoops.
Arceus turned the whole game into pokemon snap with balls. Or the safari zone. It wasn’t good, unless you like playing pokemon games to catch every pokemon as fast as possible
The Internet hates modern pokemon - and a lot of their critiques are valid - but imo they’ve been consistently fun and I have no idea why there’s so much hate for the latest ones which were a pretty chill time
Let’s see what kind of unbelievable powecreep they come up with to upstage Urshifu and the horses.
I want a 3D Pokémon in the graphics style of Animal Crossing New Horizons, the lighting and shading in that game looks way better than whatever GameFreak makes. The last couple of 3D Pokémon games look so generic, basically bog standard anime game.
Looks very pretty. I wonder if Gamefreak has finally pulled their finger out of their ass.
Switch 2 sucks. What even is there for it that is a must? I still play switch 1 but there’s really nothing that makes me want to get the switch 2
Also, Mario kart 8 is now Nintendos version of Skyrim and gta v. we never even got part 9 for switch 1
I considered getting it, but Switch 2-exclusivity is a nope. (Unless they allow you to trade in your Switch for a Switch 2, which I doubt would happen.)

Looks nice, but seems to be Switch 2 exclusive.
Would you trust another pokemon game on the Switch 1 after Scarlet and Violet?
Do you really think hardware has anything to do with how crap S and V is?
I am especially surprised that Nintendo hasn’t figured out that more hardware does not equal more fun.
In 2027, it better be.
Why would you ever expect anything else?
Well, mianly because this generation we kept getting PS4 games even from first party for many years. And also Pokémon is kind of it’s own thing in Nintendo’s lineup, and generally plays with different rules.
Not having the game hindered by switch 1 hardware (and probably devkit) will sure be an improvement
Thank god. It’s been 3/4 of a year, and we’ve got what? 2 so far?
Getting Sun & Moon vibes.
I heard someone else say the same thing. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
For me, Sun and Moon, well Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were the last Pokémon I actually enjoyed, despite being pretty handholdy in the first few hours. Trailer for Winds and Waves is honestly the first time I’ve felt positive about a mainline Pokémon game since Legends Arceus.
U S/M are good games with many content. But as a old generation player, the map feels very restricted and slow walking, and almost all Pokémon games later follow the same design. I miss huge cities with no loading times and many characters to interact with and many of them having something to offer to the experience. Now Pokémon cities feels empty.
They were the last good games
Ok, some people didn’t like the gameplay, setting etc… due to personal preference, but the games were undeniably good from a technical standpoint (regarding the 3ds hardware they ran on)
If the graphical fidelity and the animations in the trailer are actually in-game, then I suspect we’ve already seen at least half of the Pokémon that will be available, in this trailer.
The water looks so good!
Finally some good looking graphics in a Pokémon game
Interesting! I haven’t played a Pokemon game since Sword and Shield, but I’m liking the setting here. And it looks a little bit more graphically impressive than previous instalments?
Definitely, but anything else would have been very disappointing. They have much more hardware power at their disposal compared to Switch 1 after all. I don’t know if I’d say that these are impressive graphics by Switch 2 standards, but they’re finally at a point where they look nice, which is ultimatey all that matters.
Yeah, I’m sure the Switch 2 is capable of much more. Mario Kart World looks really pretty, and they managed to get FF7 Rebirth running on it. So I’m sure the Pokemon devs could do a lot better really - but by their standards it’s an improvement at least.
I really doubt those are in game graphics.
From 1:31 onwards?
Yeah, it just looks too good to me, given their track record. I’d be happy to be wrong though.
Keep in mind that this is much more powerful hardware than what previous games were running on.
But then again, there are much better looking games running on the Switch than any Pokemon.
Hmm at least pokemon seldom released trailer with unrealistic graphic, so i would believe it look like that. And it looks alright, so far, but anyways not mind blowing in my opinion. Which would be enough for me if everything else is alright as well
Pretty generic and forgettable starter designs. It’s getting harder and harder, of course, but even the previous generation’s were vastly superior. The only detail I really like is the panting dog tongue of the Fire starter, the other two have nothing going for them.
It looks nice, but it’s still generations behind in terms of what a studio that big and with that much money should be able to do in such a long development time. I’d rather have them keep it small and simple but improve on a lot of QoL stuff than try fancy things that are prone to break and be forgotten easily.
