New to Lemmy

Not exactly new to Lemmy, but my search-fu has been noobish at best.

A couple of times I've tried making posts and got an error of "Lemmy: blocked URL". As the first time it happened was with a post with multiple links, I didn't know which site was the problem.

Does anyone know where the starred posts are stored? I have starred a couple of posts that I wanted to go back to but have no idea where they are now 😄

Hi. Recently joined and wondering if this is possible. There are many instances with country codes or top level domains, naturally content there is in the relevant language. German in .de for example.

How can I link to a Lemmy post in a way that another Lemmy user that can view the linked page without the "You must log in or sign in to vote or comment" message (when they are already logged in)?

Back in the day, introducing video posts destroyed *facebook*, a friends chatter platform, slowly but surely. Same fate with *instagram,* a photography/memory platform, getting into reels and videos.

So far I see no difference.

Say I'm on the page of a community and I'd like to search for something within that /c.

If there would "hypothetically" be an instance owner(like what even is that, just a guy or group having servers somewhere?) that censores in bad faith, could it do that to the communities on there too? Could they just take out certain communities or delete content on it, affect the responsive moderators, etc?

For those on smaller instances/sites, you may have to use Lemmyverse to find communities first due to how things work here.

For those switching over from Reddit that are interested in this feature, there isn't a direct substitute for this with Lemmy right away. Instead you have to create a community and set it so only moderators (which will be you) can post, and everyone else can only comment.

How old does my account have to be before I can post photos?

I know this will take some time to get used to, but I am using the Voyager app. I am confused on what local communities in comparison to the federate communities.

On Reddit, Reddit would randomly pick 50/100 communities from which it fills your home feed. Your other subscriptions do not matter until Reddit decides to refresh the list of subs its pulling from.

Okay, so first I thought that I had subscribed to a few communities from different servers and they weren't showing up in my feed. But apparently I never subscribed to them and seem unable to do so.

SOLUTION: literally write out [exclamation mark]community@instance. Do not use the autocomplete function. This works in both the sidebar and comments.

I keep seeing people ask for this. There are basically only two ways, neither of which are terribly easy unless you are willing to switch to a Lemmy alternative and then it can be a breeze with just a couple of button clicks.

Not everyone enjoys the literally daily deluge of messages advocating for and defending the continued practice of literal genocide - so long as it is done by the “correct” side of whatever conflict - e.g. the constant (and oftentimes graphical) depictions of beheading landlords. However, others very much do enjoy that - so how do we all get along?
