“Dough Boys”, “Doughnut Girls”
It was the first World War, so I guess it makes sense we didn’t know how to act and we’re being far too cute about everything.
I wonder if the Great War-era Euros felt like we in the modern day would if a sudden massive contingent of fresh troops joined WW3, but introducing themselves with
“Hewwo, we are set to defend democracy Mr. Pwime Minister •̀⩊•́ "
That just makes American troops sound like Human Peons from Warcraft.
“Wha is et?”
England: “Um, we need to defeat the Kaiser.”
“More work?”
England: “Y-yeah. Can you help us?”
“Right-o.”
England: “Um, Germany is that way.”
“Off I go then.”
America rolls across the countryside
“Job’s done!”
American with a shotgun: “I SHOT THE SHERIFF, AND THE DEPUTY, AND YOUR WEE DOGGY TOO”
Germans: “Scheiße, who invited these lunatics to a civilized war?”
