Black soldiers have been an integral part of the US Army from the civil war forward no matter their social standing in the greater American society. We have now decided that we want to erase their contribution to American power and freedom and reduce their contribution going forward yet they continue to serve. America owes a debt of honor to these men and women who choose to serve despite the lack of respect given.
I wish I would have 1% of their swag. it can’t get any cooler than this.
In addition to having one of the most exceptional combat records of any US military unit and earning the deep respect of the French, and many Harlem Hellfighters going on to make significant contributions to American culture in the Harlem Renaissance and the early Civil Rights movement after the war…
… they also had one of the best military bands in all of Europe at the time who introduced jazz to a non-American audience. Some of those band-members went on to become major musical figures.
OP bunch, very cool history to them.
