Explanation: The Roman Emperor Carus died after prosecuting a promising campaign against Sassanid Persia. Depending on what story you want to believe, he was either assassinated by Diocletian, who would take power after him, or struck by lightning.

I prefer the struck by lightning explanation. Statistically speaking it had to happen to at least ONE major world leader in history, right?
