Explanation: Cato the Elder was a Roman politician in the Mid-Republic era who was renowned for his ultraconservative positions - including that Greeks were DANGEROUS bringing their filthy LITERATURE and PHILOSOPHY and MEDICINE to GOOD, HONEST, ROMAN LANDS, along with other overclever, ‘thinking’ filth. He believed, in fact, that Greek doctors were involved in a massive conspiracy to murder all foreigners with their dangerous ‘healthcare’ nonsense! Obviously, the only REAL cure Romans needed was eating cabbage.
Cato the Younger was a Roman politician in the Late Republic, and the great-grandson of Cato the Elder. Cato the Younger was also an ultraconservative ghoul who claimed that all of his hatred of the poor was justified by Roman traditions (PROTIP: Roman traditions were so many and so incoherent they could be used to justify fucking anything, including the reverse of Cato’s positions), but Cato the Younger was also a champion of the GREEK philosophy of ‘Stoicism’.
So much for his vaunted conservatism! O TEMPORA! O MORES!
