Explanation: After WW2, the Soviet Union promised the Western Allies that countries liberated from the fascists in Eastern Europe would be allowed to hold free and fair elections, making the defeat of the fascist invaders a true liberation, no matter what came next!
… but free and fair elections were not respected by the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union ended up occupying most of the countries they ‘liberated’.
