Explanation: In WW2, during the Nazi invasion of Crete, a large force of Nazi paratroopers was sent to secure the island of Crete.

The inhabitants of Crete were not happy about this. While there was an Allied military force on the island, the Cretans armed themselves and took to the battle as well, with some real goddamn antiques. There were literal muskets used that dated back to the resistance against the Ottoman Empire!

Due to the way that paratroopers worked at the time, the Nazis landed largely without any rifles or machineguns, which were dropped and retrieved separately. The Cretans, following the parachutists as they fell, would ambush them before they could do so, minimizing the equipment disadvantage.

Get fucked, Nazis.

Unfortunately, an Allied fuckup would lead to the initial victories being reversed, and a beach-head being secured by the Nazis to bring in reinforcements and occupy the island.
