This #FediCon talk from @benpate@mastodon.social is probably my favorite out of the bunch. They're all really good, but so many of his points hit home for how I feel about the #Fediverse and what we could do together.
It is funny how a notification from me showed up on the BIG SCREEN at FediCon — due to @deadsuperhero@social.wedistribute.org 's computer being used for the back-drop for the WeDistribute Live panel at FediCon 2025.
After @atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org did his panel at FediCon — multiple people told me that @atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org needs his own podcast, because of how funny he was 🙂
"Here's a topic I know which will excite all of you: governance. Will the governance of the #Fediverse become more democratic, shift to benevolent dictatorship, or the classic open source model of 'Rage, Fork, Repeat'?"
"The #Fediverse itself is not a third space. It is a landscape, where third spaces may occur. And your third space may be different than my third space."
An interesting way of thinking about things: the #Fediverse itself is a distinct concept that's somewhat sequestered off from the rest of the Web. The Social Web concept builds on the Fediverse, and proposes bringing social capabilities and communication to the Web as we know it today.
