The title of the original https://www.heise.de/news/Deutsche-Datenschuetzer-draengen-auf-endgueltiges-Aus-fuer-die-Chatkontrolle-11282922.html currently talks about “Datenschutzbehörden”, i.e. data protection authorities; but you can see in the URL that the article previously had a different title, which seems to be the one used for the translation to English, there’s apparently just no better way to directly translate “Datenschützer” to English. :/

The term “privacy advocates” basically doesn’t exist in the German language; we use the term “Datenschützer” for those who engage in the fight for privacy and data protection. I actually believe that the term we use in German is better, since protection sounds much more serious and more worth discussing compared to “privacy.” The word data protection actually says that this is not just about having privacy, but about actual protection of so much more.

Especially when you add the word “German” to the front! When it comes to anything but data, I don’t want to see German protectionists

What the hell is wrong with you? Germany is very data protection and privacy aware, we’ve got additional data protection regulations on top of those by the EU and are generally much better than e.g. the USA or Canada as far as I’m aware.

Good step, hope they are honest.

Bc really man they make tone of excuses to monitor us, even monitor our kids, boy if I want to protect my kid I’ll do it myself by not giving them a phone at that age!

In the next decade, they’ll probably put robots in our houses and charge us for saying the f-word just bc they announced a new mighty law of ‘utopia!’, we’ll then be invaded by aliens for them to return the world balance and be gone again as myths in history ;-;
