Cast Iron

Picked up my first vintage iron from someone on FB today. Excited to get it cleaned up and see how it compares to my Lodge skillets.

Just a simple melt with homemade bread, ham, cheese and dijon.

My grandmother in-law passed away this week. As you might imagine, the old lodge she gave us when she moved to assisted living is getting a workout this weekend. This was the only thing I thought to take a picture of.

Just for your entertainment. This was a partial whole wheat/ white with herbs. Cold fermented inside the pan with lid on (brush lid with some oil so it doesn’t stick). I made half pesto, half spicy and it’s very far from traditional focaccia, except the dough, really.

These things are stupid rare. The bottom pot tended to be used as a flower pot and as such, no one had them.

Just a classic pot roast in a Dutch oven. There are plenty recipes avaible online but its basically this.

I think this might be a Lodge skillet. However, two things make me question whether it's a Lodge.

There was a trend on another site where everyone made pizza so I thought I'd give it a whirl since I'd never made pizza at home that wasn't a take and bake.

Sigh. Always test cast iron of unknown history. Any wall mounting tips lol?

My aunt said that my grandmother tossed this in the barn after her house burned in 1982. She gave it to me the other day after I'd asked about family cast iron.

So my dad is having a retirement auction. Among the stuff we forgot my mother had owned we found her old campfire Dutch oven covered in surface rust. I scrubbed the rust off and put a quick coat of seasoning on it just so that it didn't sell as a lawn ornament. Obviously I started thinking that maybe I should keep it. Once it was on the stove cooling off, my dad took one look at it and said " That cleaned up pretty nice, I think maybe I'll keep that after all"

I've only bought the pan a week ago and used it three times. Hot dogs, eggs, and steak.

These are from a brownie mix.

Just chicken thighs in a Lodge 10" skillet. Seasoning is pretty basic with, herbs, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, paprika and a little cayenne.

Hi! I'm an amateur and must have used my pan incorrectly, and would like to ask some directions to fix my specific case.

Looking forward to using this. It's SUPER rough, thin, and cheap. But it'll make cute pancakes.

I was going to cook some fried rice for lunch during d&d when I realized my wok is seasoned with peanut oil and one of the players is allergic to peanuts.

It puffed in the middle only, and was almost bready around the edges, Crumb shot.

I use one or two of these every single day. Sometimes even multiple times a day. They are workhorses that I know will out last me.

So here is the pan I posted about a couple days ago. I put the pan in the oven and ran the self-cleaning cycle. When it came out I cleaned off the ash and I could actually tell that some of the texture around the edge was the metal and not food. The rest of the gunk was gone.

I started using a lodge cast iron pan about a year ago. I purchased the pan probably five years ago, but it didn’t see much use. I decided to try to move away from cooking with non-stick skillets and it took a while to get comfortable, but now I use it routinely. I have some questions about care.

I've been trying to avoid buying more pans just because I like the designs but my wife and siblings peer pressured me into this one.

After seeing this post from @jordanlund@lemmy.world we decided to try our hand at some little Danish pancakes. So far they are not turning out as well as Jordan’s did, but they are tasty. I used the recipe that came with the pan. Next batch I will use the one Jordan provided.

Monday night is pizza night, and I love cooking it in my cast iron pan.

First time having it too. I think I found my go-to quick dessert recipe.

Got a new Lodge griddle a few weeks ago and I finally took it for a test drive this morning. I was worried about how it would work on a glass top but, so far so good!

Grilled some chicken breasts and thighs, finishing with a sear on my lodge double Dutch oven lid.

The trivet and Guitar pan are mostly for my wife. I'm looking forward to trying out the griddle on my glass-top. Thinking I might try pancakes on it this weekend.

I've never eaten one before this. I have a feeling it wasn't perfect but I thought it pretty good.

I usually only use this griddle for tortillas but I decided to try something different. This just a random "buttermilk pancake" recipe.

Also this might be off topic for this community as this is a carbon steel pan (Merten & Storck).

I found it in a cupboard at my family farm. It's unlabeled, gate marked, has a funky raised "8", and an interesting design on the handle. The finish job on the inside looks great, very smooth.

Filet mignon in cast iron and ribeye in carbon steel. Dry brined for one day, cooked in avocado oil, basted in ghee and garlic, and finished with a little cracked pepper.

Picked it up for a song recently. I suspect it to be a BSR but it's kind of weird. Also, why is it so clean and skinny? It looks like aluminum but it's labeled as CI.

Finally got a cast iron takoyaki pan, it works so well!

I just acquired a Vollrath #8 deep dryer with lid, in fantastic condition, just needing to be stripped and reseasoned. I see these going anywhere from $140 to $290 online.

Made some pan pizza, the other day. Followed this recipe, with some added Napoli Salame on top.

I made an apple pie in a cast iron pan. It's actually easier to make than it seems. Everything is from scratch.

I was originally going to make Chile Rellenos but I ran out of time. I made Rajas and added them to the Picadillo that was going to be the pepper stuffing. I didn't take a photo of that because I was too hungry. It came out great.
