My mouse has terrible range from my computer. If it go too far, it disconnects. It has maybe a metre range.

Today, after decrypting my encrypted drive, the system failed to boot into it.

Does the 1~2 week delay improve Manjaro stability over Arch?

I saw a similar post here recently, but this is slightly different.

Coming from Manjaro, I had Manjaro in dual boot with Windows for a few years now. I have now also installed Arch Linux. During the Arch installation, I skipped the part with the boot partition and the bootloader. I have been using the bootloader/grub from Manjaro. That works quite well.

I try to download a file with curl directly after logging into Gnome. This usually fails because mostly the WiFi connection is only established after login. If I wait long enough in the login screen before logging in, the connection is already established and the download works.

Since I no longer had an icon for Steam in Gnome, I tried to reinstall Steam via pacman -S steam. That didn't bring me an icon in the Gnome overview either, but that was because I had created a separate *.desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications. I removed this and the icon in the overview came back. But now I have the problem that the games I call up via Steam no longer start. For one game, the launcher starts, but then displays the message “Please start Steam first” (Steam is already running, otherwise I wouldn't be able to start the game). Other games bring up the message that no wine-mono is supposedly installed. But it is installed.

Hello everyone! I want to write a short script to let me know if there has been more than 3 days since the last full system update whenever I open a terminal (run from .zshrc). Ive got something cobbled together, but sadly it only checks for the last full system update from pacman directly because of the way it looks at the pacman logs.

I find AI to be of great help when using arch for the first time. Because i can ask anything that i dont understand about arch or anything that i want to do but dont know how.

Hi ! I just made my first AUR package, which was really fun, and I was wondering what your own experience was like. Why did you decide to make your first packages ? What was fun, what was annoying ? What problems did you have ? Had you been using Arch for long ?

To fix an issue I was having with GTK apps on Wayland (KDE Plasma 6) I went to /usr/share/applications found the .desktop file I wanted to change, right clicked, went to enviornmental variables and added Exec=env GDK_BACKEND=x11 to force the app to use X11. This fixed my problem. However, I checked .zshrc, .bashrc expecting to see the change there but did not. I don't have /etc/environment or .profile on my system it seems. I'd like to know where these changes were saved. I also tried opening the .desktop file in a text editor to no avail. This was supposed to be a temporary fix while waiting for the developer to fix a scaling issue on Wayland. I'm not sure how to revert it.

Ever since I found out about run0 I've been using that. I don't like having redundant software installed. Is it possible to safely remove sudo from an Arch Linux system? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

It's often being tremendously slow when I load the pages. Does this happen on just my pc or anybody has this too?

macOS has a bunch of apps which can do so, including SketchyVim. Basically you would have all the vim modes motions and operators, inside any text box in the OS / in any app. I just did some looking up and asked LLMs, but didn't find any linux equivalents of that. Ideally they would work on wayland and have app or window class exceptions.

This installation of arch is 2 years old at this point and there's nothing wrong with it and I want to do a clean reinstall to feel more fresh. But I've been constantly delaying it for a long time because I'm scared breaking something and also not having my laptop fully functional for even a day isn't a pleasant thought.

Updated earlier today and some of the packages were gtk, adwaita and related. Is it just me or did anyone else notice this?

Hi, brand new linux noob and am having issues right off the bat.

I'm currently on EndeavourOS that i set up like a week ago and I'm using a 4070 currently, I'm really new to Linux I used mint for about two months and just swapped over to EndeavourOS, but I wanted to know the proper way to swap over to the AMD card some people are saying I need to remove the Nvidia drivers and the add AMDs drivers then swap or others are saying just drop it in and then last is I have to reinstall the os, what is the proper way to do my upgrade? If I didn't remove make dependencies, would yay/pacman be smart enough to know the thing I am installing does not actually depend on them? It's a very nice feature of package managers that they track dependencies and can do things like remove "dangling" dependencies and I don't want to mess that up with some random dependencies needed only for a build. But I also don't want to install something every time I need to build lol.

When the newly released sdl3 is installed it offers to replace sdl2 with sdl2-compat which is a compatibility wrapper around sdl3. Any experience with this wrapper? Are you a happy user? Have you run into any breakage?

Hey guys, up to a few days ago it was working fine, i.e. it wouldn't go to sleep ever. But probably some update or something else changed and now after 13 minutes my pc goes to sleep.

As the title says. pacman -Q lists only name and version; pacman -Qi does have a "Packager" field, but i think it's not the same thing; pacman -Qs *seems* to be what i want (if local means "all installed packages atm") but it's all prefixed by local/ instead of repo name like mingw32/ which is what i want.

I've seen some tools that do things like take snapshots periodically and ones that add snapshots to grub, but not this specifically. Does something exist?

Since swapfile shouldn't be in a snapshot, and I want my system encrypted therefore I am asking if it could be possible to make efi partition big enough to include swapfile inside it?

Hey everyone, I’ve recently been trying to go back to a dual boot setup with Windows and Arch. I would fully switch to Arch, but unfortunately there are still a few things I need access to that either don’t have a FOSS alternative that meets my needs or won’t run through WINE/Proton.

I'll start: After switching to Neovide from the terminal for Neovim, I got really hooked on the animated cursor and smooth scrolling (links to Neovide's features page). It wasn't until 2 months ago when the earlier was added to Kitty. I did so much overthinking about which terminal to use, and realized that I wouldn't (and don't) use most of the features provided by ones like iTerm and Kitty, though I picked the later. I was pleasantly surprised to see it added, even if it could use more work to make long smooth cursor animations like Neovide. The only other feature I want is smooth scrolling, I can't believe there are no modern terminals with it.

The reasons I found were control of flags and features, and optimizations for specific chips (like Intel AVX or ARM Neon), but to what degree do those apply today?

I want to set the system to send DNS queries with a custom port, not 53. I added DNS=127.0.0.1 9053 to /etc/systemd/resolved.conf and DNS=127.0.0.1:9053 to /etc/systemd/networkd.conf. But now DNS queries are sent via the default DNS with port 53. What can I do?

I installed CachyOS with Plasma DE and found it has no discover in it. When I searched on their sub lots of people say that one shouldn't use Discover with any Arch distro as it will break the system. Can anybody clarify why?

Hey people ! How do you do ? I am posting because in recent time I had troubles with easyeffects. The UI is buggy such as frequent crash when adding effects, it's impossible to save any preset and the input fields are buggy (I also can't type anything in them). Am I the only one or is it more spread ? (I installed via pacman and have trouble on tumbleweed too but less)

Hi, I already asked this in a gnome community but I was unable to get an answer since the issue is more complex than it seems (and I really do not want to go to r*ddt, heh) :) I run arch with gnome in a tuxedo infinibook 14 gen 9 (intel) and since this is a recent model, there are things that does not seems to be working out of the box... specially when installing another distro than the ones they recomment (which are a no-go for me because of two main reasons: I want arch, I want gnome).

Cross posting so that the OP realizes this community is alive. I have no issues with qemu, which is installed on my system with no issues.

I’m trying to make a custom iso with archiso, currently I just have the standard profile with plasma-meta, kitty, and xorg-xinit installed. When booting the iso the shell is zsh as expected, but when I launch kde with startx it changes the shell to bash.

Running into an issue where I have no internet connection. I've put iwd so I cam use iwctl for the wifi, enabled iwd.service, syatemd.resolv service and not sure what else i need to do. Ethernet doesn't work either but i didnt change the settings to UP on it since i wasnt planning on using it. Did chroot from what I read in the manual and no errors that I saw during the base install. Just trying to find the best way to fix lack of internet connectivity so any guidance on the issue would be appreciated.

I've been running Arch for about a year on my pretty old Acer laptop with an I7 8750h and a GTX 1060. Got a pretty good deal on a used Asus Tuf A16 with a Ryzen 7 7735hs and an RX 7700s.

I installed CachyOS with BTRFS, LUKS2 , REFIND.

Let's say i made 10 snapshots on top of the base.
